Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (April 11, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's University softball team dropped a pair of home games to visiting Saint Francis University on Saturday afternoon at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus. The Mount fell by identical 8-0 scores in five innings in the twinbill.
Game 1: Saint Francis 8, Mount St. Mary's 0 (5 inn.)
Saint Francis scored six runs in the top of the second to break the game open en route to an 8-0 win in five innings in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Taylor Parsons opened the game with a leadoff home run for the Red Flash (22-8, 3-1 NEC) to start the scoring. The Mount's Morgan Alisauckas doubled with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but was left stranded on base.
The Red Flash then scored six times in the second to grab a commanding 7-0 lead. Kate Blattenberger led off the second with a solo home run for a two-run lead. Madison Cabell added a two-run double in the inning as well.
Alisauckas had a leadoff double in the fourth, but the Mountaineers were unable to bring her home. She finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles while Rachel Heinze, Marisa Mayes and Jessica Greenewald also had hits in the loss.
Danni Cummings started and took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 1.1 innings. Sam Lichtner allowed three runs in 3.2 innings of relief.
Game 2: Saint Francis 8, Mount St. Mary's 0 (5 inn.)
Saint Francis scored three times in the top of the first en route to an 8-0 win in five innings in game two. The Mount (6-22, 1-5 NEC) was held to two hits in the loss.
Kindra Witthus laced a two-run triple to right-center field in the top of the first to give the Red Flash a 2-0 lead, and she came home with the third run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The Red Flash added a run in the second and four more in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
Megan Baker and Tori Belloc had the Mount's hits in the game. Starting pitcher Marian Ruf allowed eight runs (seven earned), striking out three while allowing seven hits in the complete-game loss.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action tomorrow when Central Connecticut State visits Our Lady of the Meadows Field for a noon doubleheader.
