MOUNT UPDATE: After nearly two weeks without a game due to weather-related cancellations, the Mount St. Mary's softball team is scheduled to return to action with four games at Manhattan College. The Mount will face Manhattan and Stony Brook on Sunday before a doubleheader versus Manhattan on Monday. Freshman Morgan Alisauckas and sophomore Rachel Heinze lead the Mount with seven hits apiece, while freshman pitcher Marian Ruf has posted a team-best 5.54 ERA.
LAST TIME OUT: Facing a challenging slate as part of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, the Mount put together a 1-5 record. The grueling stretch with six games in three days was highlighted by a 3-2 victory over Loyola-Chicago to kick off day two. Freshman pitcher Marian Ruf secured her first collegiate win, yielding two earned runs on six hits in her complete game effort versus Loyola-Chicago. Classmate Morgan Alisauckas hit .385 at the Invitational to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. MANHATTAN: Mount St. Mary's has gone 1-2 in the all-time series versus Manhattan with all three games being played at neutral sites. The Mountaineers and Jaspers split a doubleheader in 2004, and Manhattan took a single game from the Mount in 2006.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. STONY BROOK: The Mount carries a 3-1 all-time record versus Stony Brook into the weekend. The Mountaineers took the first meeting by a 6-4 score in 2006. After splitting a doubleheader in 2007, the Mount was an 8-5 winner in the most recent matchup in 2008.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman Morgan Alisauckas earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on March 2. Alisauckas, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team for the Coastal Carolina Invitational, leads the Mount with a .389 batting average. She hit .385 during the week with five RBIs, two doubles and a home run. Defensively, Alisauckas did not commit an error in six games with three starts in right field, two at second base and one at shortstop.
TRIPS TO THE BIG APPLE: This weekend will mark the first of two trips to New York for the Mount in 2015. During the final NEC regular season weekend on April 25 and 26, the Mount will play road doubleheaders at Wagner and LIU Brooklyn.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Mount will play its first 16 games away from home this season. In road and neutral site games in 2014, the Mountaineers went 11-19-1 and were 9-19 away from Our Lady of the Meadows Field in 2013.
NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected to finish eighth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Central Connecticut was picked first in the poll with four first-place votes, followed closely by Bryant, which also picked up four top votes. LIU Brooklyn and Robert Morris finished 3-4 in the poll with the Blackbirds of LIU picking up the final first-place vote. FDU, Saint Francis U and Wagner followed, with the Mount finishing ahead of Sacred Heart in this year's poll.
