Box Score 2 Conway, S.C. (March 1, 2015) – On the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sunday, the Mount St. Mary's softball team dropped single games versus Saint Joseph's and Coastal Carolina by 8-0 final scores.
For the Mount (1-10), freshman Morgan Alisauckas (Pottsville, Pa.) was named to the all-tournament team after leading the team with a .385 batting average with five RBIs, two doubles and a home run in six games.
GAME ONE: Saint Joseph's 8 – Mount St. Mary's 0 (5 Innings)
Saint Joseph's jumped on the Mount early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back on the way to an 8-0 win.
The Mount, which was plagued by four errors in game one, managed five hits off Saint Joseph's starting pitcher Madison Clark, who earned the complete-game victory. The Hawks rapped eight hits, scoring single runs in the third and fifth innings to go with two in the fourth for the five-inning victory.
Mount St. Mary's leadoff hitter Rachel Heinze (Charlotte Hall, Md.) picked up her first multi-hit game of the season with a single and a double.
The Mount's most dangerous scoring opportunity came in the third when Heinze and Megan Baker (Waynesboro, Pa.) knocked back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on first and second. Alisauckas advanced both runners with a groundout, but the Hawks escaped as Clark induced a ground ball to get out of the inning.
For Saint Joseph's, Bella Picard and Nicole Palasae both turned in 2-for-3 performances at the plate with Sarah Yoos and Ashley Alden knocking in two runs apiece.
In the circle for the Mountaineers, Marian Ruf (Mesa, Ariz.) fanned two batters and gave up four earned runs on three hits in 3.1 innings of work. Danni Cummings (Owings, Md.) entered out of the bullpen to pitch the final 1.1 innings, surrendering one earned run on five hits.
GAME TWO: Coastal Carolina 8 – Mount St. Mary's 0 (5 Innings)
Playing their sixth game in three days, the Mountaineers dropped the tournament finale by an 8-0 final score to the host Coastal Carolina. Eight runs on seven hits carried the Chanticleers to a five-inning victory.
The Mount picked up singles from Alisauckas, Rachel Gavigan (Vineland, N.J.) and Maria Santiago (Buena, N.J.) in game two, but Coastal Carolina was able to keep the Mount off the board.
Coastal pitcher Kelsey Dominik scattered three hits and struck out five to pick up the shutout victory. Sam Lichtner (Morgantown, Pa.) took the loss for the Mount with seven earned runs on six hits in 2.0 innings of work. Cummings again made a relief appearance with 2.2 innings pitched and one run on one hit.
Kailey Mellen delivered the big hit for Coastal Carolina in the second with a three-run home run as part of a four-run inning.
Next weekend, the Mount heads to UMBC for the Dawg Pound Invitational. The Mountaineers will face Drexel and Lafayette on Saturday, March 7, before a single game versus UMES on Sunday, March 8.
