Mount Softball Slips in Two Games on Day Two of Georgia Tech – Georgia State Invitational

Atlanta (February 21, 2015) – On day two of the Georgia Tech – Georgia State Invitational on Saturday, the Mount St. Mary's softball team fell to Presbyterian, 8-0, in game one and Georgia State, 10-4, in the nightcap. Both games were played at the Heck Softball Complex at Georgia State.

GAME ONE: Presbyterian 8 – Mount St. Mary's 0 (5 Innings)

Mount St. Mary's (0-4) kept Presbyterian (3-4) off the board until the third inning when the Blue Hose posted five runs before adding three over the next two innings for the win.

For the Mount, Jessica Greenewald (Morrisville, Pa.), Rachel Gavigan (Vineland, N.J.) and Marian Ruf (Mesa. Ariz.) all singled in game one. Ruf, who was also making her pitching debut, tossed four innings, striking out five while yielding eight earned runs on 10 hits.

Presbyterian's Kersten Legacki knocked in five runs as part of a 2-for-3 performance that included a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Sydney Seigler hurled all five innings for the Blue Hose, giving up three hits and one walk to pick up the shutout.

GAME TWO: Georgia State 10 – Mount St. Mary's 4

The Mount bats came alive in game two on Saturday in a 10-4 loss at Georgia State.

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Mount leveled the score with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rachel Teti (Mount Airy, Md.) started the scoring with a one-out solo home run over the fence in center. Three batters later with Gavigan on second, freshman Morgan Alisauckas (Pottsville, Pa.) smacked her first career homer to left to put the score at 3-3.

The Panthers would retake the lead with two runs on four hits in the fifth and four runs on five hits, including a home run from Ivie Drake in the sixth for a 9-4 advantage. Georgia State went on to tack on one more in the seventh for the 10-4 win.

Teti finished 2-for-4 at the dish as the Mount collected a season-best six hits in game two.

In the circle, Sam Lichtner (Morgantown, Pa.) surrendered three runs on two hits in the first inning with Danni Cummings (Owings, Md.) finishing the final 6.0 innings with seven runs on 12 hits. Georgia State used three pitchers with Eron Milton earning the win with 1.2 innings of work while giving up one run on four walks and no hits.

The Mountaineers conclude the tournament tomorrow at Georgia Tech with a single game at noon.
