Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (February 21, 2015)--The tandem of Byron Ashe and Gregory Graves propelled Mount St. Mary's to a 75-64 win over Fairleigh Dickinson at Knott Arena on Saturday afternoon. Ashe matched his career high with 24 points while Graves added 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mount to the win.
Ashe, who has scored 20 or more points in each of the past three games, stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds. He was 7-for-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point range.
Graves tallied his fifth double-double of the season with his 15 points and 13 rebounds. He had eight offensive rebounds in the game while matching his career high in rebounds.
Trailing 6-5 early, the Mount (14-13, 10-6 NEC) scored the next 10 points to take the lead for good. Kristijan Krajina started the run with a dunk, with Ashe scoring the next five points on a putback dunk and a three-pointer. A Will Miller three-pointer capped the spurt, giving the Mount a 15-6 advantage.
Fairleigh Dickinson (7-20, 2-14 NEC) cut the deficit to 19-17 on a Stephan Jiggetts lay-up, but Miller and Ashe connected on back-to-back three-pointers on the next two possessions to push the Mount lead back to eight. The Mountaineers extended the advantage to 38-24 at the half.
Ashe and Graves each had five points during a 10-3 second-half run that lifted the Mount to a 65-45 lead with 8:24 left in the contest. The Knights fought back, cutting the Mount lead to 70-62 with 1:30 on the clock, but Mount hit enough free throws down the stretch to post the win.
Miller added 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range for the Mount while Krajina added 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Jiggetts led FDU with 17 points while Mustafaa Jones added 15 points and Darian Anderson 13 in the loss.
Mount St. Mary's had 20 assists on 23 baskets in the victory while blocking nine shots and recording 10 steals. The Mount shot 43.4 percent from the field and was 10-of-23 (.435) from three-point range. FDU shot 42.9 percent in the game and was 11-for-21 (.524) from beyond the arc.
The Mount is back in action on Thursday, February 26, with a road game at Saint Francis University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Game Notes: The Mount is above .500 for the first time this season with a 14-13 record...Khalid Nwandu finished with five assists, seven rebounds and three steals in the win...The Mount's first 10 field goals consisted of five dunks and five three-pointers.
