FIRST FIVE
1. Byron Ashe scored 20 of his career-high 24 points in the first half to pace Mount St. Mary's to a 75-68 win over Bryant on Saturday. He hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Mount a 38-31 lead at the half. Mount St. Mary's stretched the advantage to 49-37 early in the second half before Bryant rallied to cut the Mount lead to five with three minutes left. Gregory Graves then connected on a putback dunk with 1:30 left to give the Mount a seven-point lead. The Mount hit 6-of-8 at the foul line in the final minute to secure the win.
2. Byron Ashe has scored in double figures in five of the past six games, averaging 14.2 points over that stretch. He has scored 20 or more points three times in NEC play, and he leads the Mount in scoring at 12.3 ppg in league games. Ashe is shooting 49.1 percent overall and 35.0 percent from three-point range in NEC play.
3. The Mountaineers have clinched a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Mount has now qualified for 19 of 24 NEC Tournaments since joining the league in 1989-90. The Mount was ineligible for the NEC Tournament in its first two seasons in the league.
4. Junior Gregory Graves leads the Mount with 8.1 rebounds in NEC games this season. Graves has grabbed seven or more rebounds in 11 of the Mount's 14 NEC games.
5. Up next, the Mount closes out its four-game homestand against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, February 21, with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. The Mountaineers will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1995 NCAA team that day.
