1. Mount St. Mary's fell to Sacred Heart, 62-55, on Thursday night at Knott Arena. Gregory Graves led the Mount with 14 points and six rebounds while Kristijan Krajina (12 points) and Byron Ashe (11 points) also reached double figures. A 12-0 second-half run gave the Mountaineers a 39-30 lead, but Sacred Heart answered with an 18-to-4 run of its own to regain the lead. Mount St. Mary's shot just 38.5 percent in the game, and was 5-for-18 (.278) from three-point range.
2. Sophomore guard Byron Ashe is averaging 12.6 points over the past nine games for the Mountaineers. The 6-1 guard has reached double figures six times over that stretch, including a pair of 21-point efforts in wins at Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart. Ashe is averaging 11.4 points while shooting 51.0 percent from the field in NEC games.
3. The Mount continues to lead the NEC in scoring defense (60.2), field goal percentage defense (.395) and three-point defense (.292) in league games. In the advanced metrics, Mount St. Mary's is first in defensive efficiency by a wide margin (allowing 91.0 points per 100 possessions) and effective field goal percentage (43.6).
4. Limiting the three-point shot has been a key part of the Mount's defense this year. In 13 NEC games this year, the Mount's opponents are making just 4.4 three-point field goals per game, hitting 57-of-195 (.292) from beyond the arc.
5. Up next, the Mount continues its homestand against LIU Brooklyn on Thursday, February 19, at 7 p.m. at Knott Arena. The Mount defeated LIU, 61-54, earlier this season.
CUPCAKES FOR CANCER: The Mount St. Mary's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be selling cupcakes and offering a raffle to help support the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation on Saturday. All proceeds from the sales will go to the Foundation.
