Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (February 12, 2015)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Sacred Heart, 62-55, in Northeast Conference action at Knott Arena on Thursday night. Gregory Graves had 14 points and six rebounds to pace the Mount in the loss.
Trailing 30-27 early in the second half, the Mount (11-13, 7-6 NEC) went on a 12-0 run to take a 39-30 advantage. Graves started the run with a three-pointer and a free throw, with Byron Ashe converting a lay-up for a 33-30 lead. Chris Martin followed wit a traditional three-point play on the break, and he then closed the run with a three-pointer to give the Mount its biggest lead of the game.
Sacred Heart (12-14, 6-7 NEC) responded with an 18-to-4 run of its own to regain the lead. Steve Glowiak's long three-pointer with 7:29 left broke a 43-43 tie, and Jordan Allen followed with a bucket in the paint to cap the run and give the Pioneers a 48-43 advantage.
The Mount fought back, cutting the deficit to 52-50 on an Ashe drive, but Glowiak countered with another three-pointer to stretch the lead to 55-50 with 2:39 on the clock. After Graves scored on a nice move in the post, the Mount forced a turnover to get the ball back down three.
Chris Martin then drove the baseline, but his lay-up was off the mark, giving the Pioneers the ball back. On the ensuing possession, Phil Gaetano made a tough three-pointer as the shot clock was about to expire to make it 58-52 with 1:10 left.
The Mount made one last push, getting a dunk from Kristijan Krajina, and then Krajina hit 1-of-2 at the line after a steal, to make it 58-55 with 50 seconds left. Sacred Heart's Cane Broome then missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but Krajina was called for a charge with 17 seconds left on the next possession, and Sacred Heart was able to hold on for the iwn.
Graves hit 5-of-7 from the field for his team-high 14 points while Krajina added 12 points in the loss. Ashe added 12 points off the bench for the Mount, which shot just 38.5 percent in the game.
De'Von Barnett led all scorers with 17 points for Sacred Heart while Allen added a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Glowiak added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists while hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in the win.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, February 14, with a 2:00 p.m. home game against Bryant.
