FIRST FIVE
1. Mount St. Mary's topped Saint Francis U, 52-40, on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena to improve to 5-3 in the Northeast Conference and 9-10 overall. The Mountaineers have won five of their past six games to move into fourth place in the conference standings. Junior Robinson led a balanced Mountaineer offense with 10 points. The 40 points allowed were the fewest by at Mount team since a 57-38 win over Wagner on Feb. 28, 2004. The Mount held Saint Francis to 30.4 percent shooting, from the field including a 2-for-20 (.100) effort from three-point range.
2. Defense has been the key to the Mount's 5-1 record over the past six games. Over that stretch, the Mount is holding the opposition to 53.3 points, 36.8 percent from the field, and 24.2 percent from three-point range. In NEC games, the Mount leads the conference in scoring defense (59.4), field goal percentage defense (.391) and three-point defense (.271).
3. The Mount begins a four-game road trip with the game at St. Francis Brooklyn. The Mountaineers are 4-8 overall on the road this year, including a 2-2 mark in NEC play. The Mountaineers are 9-12 in NEC road games under Jamion Christian, and have not had a winning road record in NEC games since going 6-3 in 2007-08.
4. Mount St. Mary's is 7-0 this season when posting a higher field goal percentage than its opponent, improving to 20-3 under head coach Jamion Christian when that occurs.
5. Mount St. Mary's travels to Sacred Heart on Saturday, January 31, for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. The game will air on ESPN3.
