Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 22, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's fell to Robert Morris, 63-59, in overtime in Northeast Conference action on Thursday night. Gregory Graves tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for the Mount, which saw its four-game win streak snapped.
Mount St. Mary's held a seven-point advantage with four minutes left after Graves scored in the paint off a pass from Junior Robinson for a 56-49 advantage. The Colonials closed the regulation with a 10-to-3 run to force overtime.
Andre Frederick scored on a dunk and David Appolon hit a three-pointer on the next possession to start the rally, cutting the Mount advantage to 56-54. Khalid Nwandu hit 2-of-4 at the line for the Mount over the next two possessions, but RMU's Marcquise Reed countered with a pair of free throws with 1:29 on the clock to make it 58-56.
The Mount then missed a three-pointer, and Robert Morris had a chance to tie, but Lucky Jones had his shot blocked by Kristijan Krajina , who gathered the rebound with 21.3 seconds left. Krajina was fouled on the play, and he hit 1-of-2 at the line to give the Mount a 59-56 lead.
On the following possession, Reed tied the score with a contested three-pointer from the left wing with 11.5 seconds remaining. The Mount had a chance to win in regulation, but Will Miller's three-pointer was off the mark.
The Colonials held the Mount scoreless in the extra session to earn the win. Rodney Prior's jumper with 3:23 left gave the Mount a 61-59 lead. Appolon hit a free throw with 24 seconds on the clock to make it 62-59. On the ensuing possession, the Mount's Junior Robinson could not convert on a drive to the basket, and Appolon collected the rebound and was fouled. He hit 1-of-2 at the line to seal the win.
Mount St. Mary's (8-10, 4-3 NEC) was 0-for-8 from the field and 0-for-4 from three-point range in overtime. The Mount was held without a field goal for the final 9:06 of the game.
Graves led the Mount with 16 points and eight boards while Byron Ashe chipped in 13 points off the bench. Krajina added nine points and seven boards while Robinson had five assists and a career-high six steals.
Reed led all scorers with 21 points, hitting all eight of his free throw attempts. Prior added 17 points in the victory.
Mount St. Mary's shot 37.5 percent overall in the game and was 12-of-20 (.600) at the foul line. Robert Morris shot 48.8 percent and was 15-for-21 (.714) at the charity stripe. The Mount forced the Colonials into 21 turnovers in the contest.
The Mount is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Saint Francis University for its annual Winter Homecoming game. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at Knott Arena.
