MOUNT UPDATE: The top two teams in last season's Northeast Conference regular season standings square off on Saturday as the Mount travels to Robert Morris to take on the Colonials in the NEC opener for both teams. Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, Mount St. Mary's is aiming for its first win in Moon Township, Pa. since Feb. 28, 2009. Senior Jacqueline Brewer ranks 12th in the NEC with 12.5 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount could not overcome a slow start that led to a 22-point deficit during the first half in a 78-60 loss at Niagara on Dec. 30 in the nonconference finale. Jacqueline Brewer led the scoring effort for the Mount with 14 points, while sophomore Kathleen Belanger-Finn added 13 points and freshman Caroline Hummell registered a career-best 10 points.
The Mount forced the Purple Eagles into 16 turnovers leading to 19 points off turnovers. Niagara, which scored 28 points in the paint, shot 55.4 percent (31-for-56) from the field.
GAME DETAILS: Saturday's game will be the first game of a doubleheader with the Mount St. Mary's men's basketball team taking on Robert Morris in game two. Both games can be viewed live and for free on NECFrontRow.com.
ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS: The defending Northeast Conference Champion Robert Morris Colonials were selected to repeat, according to the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Carrying a 2-9 record, the Colonials are looking to snap a seven-game losing streak with the team's last win coming on Nov. 25 at Coppin State. The Colonials are led by sophomore Anna Niki Stamolamprou, who was an All-Rookie Team selection a year ago and ranks fifth in the NEC with 16.6 points per game this season.
LAST SEASON VS. ROBERT MORRIS: The Colonials won both matchups with the Mount last season. In Emmitsburg on Feb. 1, the Mount was handed a 67-60 loss despite 25 points from Sydney Henderson. Robert Morris again got the better of the Mount by a 71-65 final score on the road in the regular season finale.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. ROBERT MORRIS: Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series versus Robert Morris by a 33-19 margin with a 14-11 edge on the road. The Mountaineers won 30 of the first 33 matchups from 1988-2004. The last four games in the series have been decided by a combined 20 points.
BENCH SCORING: Last time out at Niagara, the Mount received its largest contribution off the bench this season with 34 points. Five of the six non-starters who appeared in the game scored at least two points. Kathleen Belanger-Finn and Caroline Hummell both scored in double figures off the bench with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
MOUNT IN THE NEC: Since joining the Northeast Conference prior to the 1989-90 season, the Mount has qualified for the Northeast Conference Tournament in 23 of 25 years.
ON THE ROAD: Mount St. Mary's has already played eight road games entering Saturday's tilt in Moon Township, Pa. The Mountaineers will play 10 of their first 13 games away from Knott Arena this season.
