FIRST FIVE
1. Mount St. Mary's improved to 2-2 in Northeast Conference play, and 6-9 overall, with a 71-61 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday. Andrew Smeathers poured in a career-high 22 points, hitting 6-of-7 from three-point range, in the win. Gregory Graves added 11 points and seven rebounds while Chris Martin chipped in 10 points off the bench for the Mount. Point guards Junior Robinson and Khalid Nwandu combined for 11 points and 12 assists. Smeathers hit a three-pointer with 4:29 left to give the Mount a 58-54 lead, and he then assisted on a Martin triple that pushed the lead to 63-54.
2. The Mountaineers were 12-of-23 (.522) from three-point range in the win over St. Francis Brooklyn. It was the second-most three-pointers in a game this year for the Mount, and the team is averaging 10.5 three-pointers made over the past two games.
3. Mount St. Mary's is averaging 78.7 points over the past three games, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 27-of-74 (.365) from three-point range.
4. After not having a player score 20 or more points over the first 12 games of the season, the Mount has had it occur in each of the past three games. Gregory Graves had 26 points at Wagner, Chris Martin tallied 22 against CCSU, and Andrew Smeathers recorded 22 points in the win over St. Francis Brooklyn.
5. Mount St. Mary's will face LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, January 17, at Barclays Center. It will be the second time the Mount has faced LIU at Barclays, falling to the Blackbirds 86-72 on Jan. 12, 2013.
