Mount St. Mary's Softball Wraps Up 2014 Season With Losses at Saint Francis

Loretto, Pa. (May 4, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's softball team was handed a pair of losses by Saint Francis University on the road on Sunday to conclude the 2014 season with a 19-24-1 overall record with a 7-9 Northeast Conference mark. The Mount fell by scores of 3-2 and 4-0 on Sunday.

GAME ONE
SAINT FRANCIS 3 – MOUNT ST. MARY'S 2
The Mount took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning in game one but could not hold on as the Red Flash stormed back with two runs in the bottom of the inning en route to a 3-2 win.

The Mount, which outhit SFU by a 10-5 margin, found itself in a 1-0 hole when SFU scored on Taylor Parson's RBI double to center field in the first inning.

Taking the lead in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, Lindsey Ruhle kicked off the inning with an infield single, and pinch runner Maria Santiago moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Marisa Mayes. Alyssa Silipino singled up the middle and Tori Belloc reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and third. Two batters later, Jessica Greenewald hit an infield single to plate Santiago to knot the game at 1-1.

A wild pitch put runners on second and third, and Megan Baker delivered the go-ahead single to plate Belloc from third for a 2-1 Mount advantage.

The Red Flash bounced right back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead at 3-2. Elise Jancef's RBI tied the score at 2-2, and after loading the bases, Maggie Creciun walked to force home the game-winning run.

In the top of the seventh, the Mount put runners on first and second on singles from Ruhle and Mayes but could not pick up the tying run. SFU pitcher Alexis Bowers tossed a complete game with two runs on 10 hits, while the Mount's Nicole Pagano fanned seven batters and gave up two earned runs on five hits.

GAME TWO
SAINT FRANCIS 4 – MOUNT ST. MARY'S 0
Saint Francis scored runs in the second and fourth innings before adding two more in the bottom of the sixth to complete the sweep with a 4-0 win. The Mount threatened all game with a runner on third in the third inning before putting runners on first and second in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not break through.

Six different Mount batters registered hits in game two, but SFU pitcher Ethel Santai kept the Mount off the scoreboard with a complete-game shutout with three strikeouts.

Creciun's RBI single gave the Red Flash a 1-0 advantage in the second inning. SFU went on to tack on three more runs throughout the game on two solo home runs from Sabrie Neeb and one from Parsons.

The Mount's best chance to score came in the top of the third when Katy Bobbitt walked and Greenewald followed with a double to move Bobbitt to third with one out. Santai was able to work out of the jam by getting the next two batters to ground out.

Playing the final game of her record-setting Mount career, Pagano struck out five while yielding four runs on six hits in six innings for the Mount. The Mount graduates five seniors in Pagano, Bobbitt, Ruhle, Silipino and Cat Clifford. Pagano exits the program with school records for career wins (53) and strikeouts (662), while Clifford ranks fourth in school history with 17 career home runs and fifth with 72 RBIs.
