Mount Track Teams Have Solid Showings in First Day of NEC Track and Field Championships

SATURDAY'S RESULTS

The Mount St. Mary's women's track and field team is in sixth place while the men's team is eighth after the first day of competition at the 2014 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Robert Morris University.

Kristen Galligan finished in third place in the 10,000m run for the Mountaineers with a time of 36:49.57.  Madeleine Midles finished third in the hammer throw (49.87m, 163' 7") with Allie Donahue placing fifth with a throw of 46.87m (153' 9").  Donahue also scored in the shot put, finishing eighth with a mark of 11.70m (38' 4.75").

The Mount had several athletes earns spots in the Sunday's finals.  In the women's 400m dash, Desi Scott's time of 57.09 seconds was the top mark in qualifying while Genamarie McCant also earned a spot in the finals with her mark of 57.61 seconds.

Helena Leyrer qualified for the finals in both the 100m hurdles (14.58) and the 400m hurdles (1:03.31). 

Maria Borland had the top qualifying time in the 800m run while twin sister Stephanie Borland had the top qualifying mark in the 1,500m run. 

For the men's team, Coby Rosemier-Gussio finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.93m (22' 9").  Shane Holcomb scored in the 10,000m run, finishing eighth with a time of 34:24.86.  Mike Dwyer's throw of 46.44m (152' 4") in the hammer throw was good for eighth place as well.

Rosemier-Gussio's busy day also saw him post the second-fastest qualifying marks in both the 100m dash (10.74) and the 200m dash (21.77).

Joshua Poole had the second-fastest qualifying mark in the 400m dash (48.85) while Kody Wilson (1:54.07) and Chris Eltringham (1:54.49) both qualified for the final in the 800m run.

Julian Woods earned spots in the finals in both the 110m and 400m hurdles.  He had the top qualifying time of 14.72 seconds in the 110m hurdles, and the second-fastest time (54.92) in the 400m hurdles.
