GAME ONE
Mount St. Mary's 2 – Sacred Heart 0
In a good pitching matchup between Pagano and SHU's Jamie Carlson, the score remained 0-0 through the first 5.5 innings in game one.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Mount broke through with a pair of runs in unorthodox fashion. Megan Baker, who led the Mount with two hits in game one, led off with a single, and Holly Buckel followed with a walk. Baker took third on Cat Clifford's fly out, and Buckel stole second base.
With two outs, Marisa Mayes struck out, but took off for first base on the dropped third strike on a passed ball. The throw down to first base was not in time, allowing Baker and Buckel to touch home for the only two runs of the game.
Pagano took care of the rest with 10 strikeouts in her third career no-hitter. Only four Pioneers reached base on two hit batsmen in the second inning, as well as a dropped third strike and fielder's choice in the seventh.
GAME TWO
Mount St. Mary's 1 – Sacred Heart 0
In another tilt that went down to the wire, Pagano picked up her fourth shutout of the season with seven strikeouts in a 1-0 win in game two.
At the dish, Clifford was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game, including a double, but the Mount did not score until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Senior Lindsey Ruhle led off the bottom of the seventh by roping a double to right center field. The next batter, freshman Tori Belloc laid a perfect bunt down the first-base line to advance Ruhle to third with no outs. On the first pitch of her at-bat, Heinze drilled a single down the left field line to plate Ruhle for the 1-0 victory.
The Mount outhit SHU, 7-5, in game two with Adrianna Mallory turning in a solid performance with the one earned run to go with two strikeouts for the Pioneers.
The Mount looks to carry momentum into tomorrow's home doubleheader versus Robert Morris beginning at 2 p.m.
