MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers have won two out of their last three games with victories over Delaware State and UMBC over the weekend. The Mount plays 10 of its next 12 games at home at Our Lady of the Meadows Field beginning with Thursday's doubleheader versus Morgan State. With 23 games remaining in the regular season, the Mount (10-14-1) is six victories shy of tying last year's win total of 16.
ONE AWAY FROM OWNING THE RECORD: In a 5-0 win over UMBC on Sunday, March 23, senior pitcher Nicole Pagano moved into a first-place tie with Zena Edwards '89 for the most wins in school history with 46. This season, Pagano leads the Mount with eight victories.
ABOUT MORGAN STATE: The Bears began the season 3-4 with wins over Thomas, Rider and UMES. Since a Feb. 23 win, however, Morgan State has lost eight in a row entering Thursday's doubleheader. Three Morgan State hitters are batting .349 or better, led by Claudette Smith's .400 average. In the circle, the Bears have a 9.02 team ERA and have been outscored 147-58.
LAST SEASON VS. MORGAN STATE: The two squads split a late-season doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on April 17. Nicole Pagano tossed a complete game two-hitter in game one in an 8-0 Mount St. Mary's win. In game two, the Mount built up a 5-0 first-inning lead but was handed a 13-8 loss.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. MORGAN STATE: The Mount and Morgan State have squared off 23 times since the first meeting in 1996. The Mount leads the all-time series, 12-11, and has won seven of the last 10 matchups.
MOUNT AT THE MEADOWS: The Mount is 0-2 at home this season after going 7-11 at Our Lady of the Meadows Field last spring. In Anna Nagro's four-year tenure at the Mount, the team is 17-32 at home.
FIVE GAME HITTING STREAK: Freshman Jessica Greenewald is riding a five-game hitting streak, which is the current longest streak on the team. Earlier this season, Greenewald hit safely in six-consecutive games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Nicole Pagano was named NEC Pitcher of the Week on March 24 following a strong performance over the weekend. The senior from Winslow, N.J. gave up just one earned run in 16.1 innings of work. In a 1-0 loss to Bowling Green, Pagano struck out 14 batters. She followed up the next day with a save against Delaware State before finishing up the weekend with 10 strikeouts against UMBC in a 5-0 shutout.
