MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mountaineer fell to #20 Drexel, 9-6, at home last Saturday to fall to 0-7 on the season.  Bubba Johnson's first career hat trick paced the Mount offense while Mikey Ripa added two goals and an assist.  Chris Klaiber made 13 saves in the loss.  Johnson now leads the Mount with six goals and eight points.  Klaiber has a 12.25 goals against average and a .540 save percentage.

ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC fell at Towson, 10-8, on Tuesday night to fall to 3-4 on the season.  Jack Gannon led the Retrievers with three goals in the loss.  Matt Gregoire leads UMBC with 20 goals this year while Gannon has 10 goals and 11 assists.  Pat Young is also in double figures with 12 goals.  In the cage, Connor Gordon has a 10.58 goals against average and a .559 save percentage.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:  Since moving to NCAA Division I in 1989, the Mountaineers are 0-15 all-time against UMBC.  Last season, UMBC scored the final two goals of the game to earn a 10-8 win at home.  The Mountaineers have not played UMBC at home since a 7-5 loss on March 2, 2002.

LAST YEAR'S GAME:  Daniel Stranix's goal with 11:46 evened the score at 8-8, but UMBC scored the final two goals of the game to earn a 10-8 win over the Mount last season.  Brett Schmidt had two goals and three assists to pace the Mountaineers in the loss, while Eric Ososki added two goals as well.  Matt Gregoire, Pat Young and Scott Jones each had two wins for UMBC in the victory.

THE MOUNT VS. RANKED OPPONENTS:  The Mountaineers are 5-52 all-time against ranked opponents since the move to NCAA Division I in 1989.  Mount St. Mary's is 0-3 against ranked foes this year, falling to then No. 6 Maryland, 16-3, in the season opener, No. 4 Virginia, 14-6, at home on Feb. 25, and 9-6 to No. 20 Drexel last Saturday.

HAT TRICK:  Bubba Johnson recorded his first career hat trick in the Mount's 9-6 loss to No. 20 Drexel last Saturday.  It is also the first hat trick of the season for the Mountaineers this year.

BALANCED SCORING:  The Mountaineers have had balanced scoring this season as 16 different players have found the back of the cage.  Bubba Johnson has a team-high six goals. 

SCORING WOES:  The Mount offense has struggled to open the 2014 season, averaging just 4.57 goals per game.  The team is averaging 26.6 shots per game.

PRESEASON POLL:  The Mount was tabbed to finish in sixth place in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Poll.  Defending champion Bryant was picked to finish first with Robert Morris and Hobart in a tie for second.  Saint Joseph's, Sacred Heart, the Mount and Wagner round out the poll.

THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE:  The Mountaineers are in the Northeast Conference, which will be in its fourth season of play.  The NEC has a new look this year as Hobart and Saint Joseph's join the league, which includes the Mount, Bryant, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Wagner.  Mount St. Mary's won the inaugural NEC title in 2011, while Bryant has won the league the past two years.

UP NEXT:  The Mount hosts Robert Morris on Tuesday, March 25, in their Northeast Conference opener.  The game is slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
