Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Washington, D.C. (March 11, 2014) – Two days after the two sides played to a 2-2 tie, the Mount softball team and George Washington split a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon. Senior pitcher Nicole Pagano picked up her sixth win of the season and the 44th of her career to move within two of the school record of 46 set by Zena Edwards in 1989.

GAME 1: MOUNT 7 – GEORGE WASHINGTON 1
Nicole Pagano put together another strong outing with her seventh complete game of the season on Tuesday. The senior pitcher fanned eight batters while allowing one run on four hits. Pagano kept George Washington off the scoreboard for most of the day, yielding a single run in the fifth.

Offensively, the Mount (7-8-1) was led by two-hit efforts from Cat Clifford and Jessica Greenewald, while Bradleigh Breland was the only George Washington (5-15-1) hitter with two hits in game one.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 until the top of the fourth when the Mountaineers exploded for five runs. The Mount capitalized on one of GW's four errors in the game that allowed Clifford to score from third after leading off with a double and advancing on Rachel Heinze's single.

Later in the inning, the Mount loaded the bases and scored runs on four-consecutive plate appearances. Holly Buckel walked and Greenewald singled for two runs before Rachel Gavigan followed with a walk and Clifford was hit by a pitch to score another run.

Leading 5-1 in the sixth, the Mount loaded the bases for Lindsey Ruhle, who delivered a two-out double for the 7-1 lead.

The Mount outhit GW, 9-4, in the first game.

GAME 2: GEORGE WASHINGTON 5 – MOUNT 3 (6 innings)
Game two began in the Colonials' favor with George Washington sprinting out to a 5-3 lead through three innings.

The Mount was kept off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth. With two outs, the Mount loaded the bases on walks by Heinze and Tori Belloc to go with a GW error. Megan Baker reached on a fielder's choice that scored the first run to cut the Mount's deficit to 5-1.

With runners on second and third, Buckel knocked a single to right field to plate two more runs to get the Mount back in the game at 5-3.

The umpires ended the game after the top of the sixth due to darkness.

Next up, the Mount plays four games in a three-day span at the Coppin State Invitational scheduled for March 14-16 in Baltimore, Md.
