MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount picked up its first seven-game winning streak since the 1999-00 season and clinched its first home NEC Tournament game since 2001-02 with a 97-80 win over Saint Francis U on Feb. 24. The Mount will travel nearly 897 miles to road games at Wagner on Saturday and Robert Morris on Monday to close the regular season. All eight NEC playoff teams have been determined with seeding still up in the air. On the offensive end, the Mount is led by Sydney Henderson, who is fifth in the NEC with 18.1 points per game and has 14 games with 20 or more points.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount shot a season-best 57.1 percent from the field on 32-of-56 shooting, en route to a 97-80 win over Saint Francis U on Feb. 24. Behind the highest scoring performance in Bryan Whitten's seven-year tenure, the Mount pulled away for its seventh win in a row. The Mount also racked up 23 steals, tying for the seventh-most in a game in school history. Sydney Henderson scored 25 points, and Jenn Carney posted 22 off the bench to carry the offense for the Mountaineers.
ABOUT WAGNER: Winners of four of their last five, the young Wagner team sits in a two-way tie for sixth place in the NEC with a chance to jump as high as third depending on tiebreakers. Wagner is the only NEC team with two players in the top six in the league in points per game in Jordyn Peck (3rd, 18.7) and Jasmine Nwajei (6th, 18.0).
LAST TIME VS. WAGNER: Jacqueline Brewer scored a team-high 23 points, while Sydney Henderson and Kayla Grossett added 21 and 20 points, respectively. In a game with nine ties and 18 lead changes, the Mount finished with its second-highest offensive output of the season in an 89-78 win on March 18 at Knott Arena. For Wagner, Jasmine Nwajei scored a game-high 25 points and Ugo Nwaigwe finished with a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WAGNER: The Mount leads the all-time series with Wagner, 35-15. The Mount has won six in a row versus Wagner and has not lost to the Seahawks since Feb. 12, 2011 by a final score of 65-54 in Staten Island.
KEEP IT ROLLING: The Mount is riding its first seven-game winning streak since 1999-00. The Mount's longest winning streak at the Division I level is 18 games set during the 1994-95 season.
STILL A CHANCE FOR #1: Trailing first-place Robert Morris by one game, the Mount can clinch the program's first NEC regular season title since 2001 with two wins, including one against the Colonials on March 3, coupled with a Robert Morris loss to Saint Francis U. If the Mount beats Wagner, and Robert Morris beats Saint Francis U on March 1 then loses to the Mount on March 3, the tournament's top overall seed will be decided by tiebreakers.
CENTURY MARK: Rachel Mathews played in her 100th career game on Feb. 24 versus Saint Francis U. The Mount is the only team in the NEC with five players with at least 100 career games played with Mathews (100), Ashley Christie (108), Kayla Grossett (118), Sydney Henderson (115) and Jessie Kaufman (108).
UP NEXT: The Mount heads to Robert Morris for a showdown featuring the top two teams in the league on Monday, March 3, at 7 p.m.
