Cambridge, Mass. (February 19, 2014) – At day one of the 2014 Northeast Conference Championships, the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team broke two school records and is currently sitting in fifth place through Wednesday's action.
With just two events on the schedule for day one, the Mountaineers made the most of their opportunities with two program records. In the first event on Wednesday, the Mount took fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.41. The team comprised of Morgan Runk, Haley Fournier, Mollie Walsh and Cat Coppler topped the previous best time of 1:47.55, which was set at the 2012 NEC Championships. Walsh and Coppler were also members of the 200 medley relay team in 2012.
Following up with another fifth-place finish in the the 800 freestyle relay, Fournier was part of another record-setting performance with Amanda Moore, Lenna Castro Marquez and Erin Regan. The Mount clocked in at 7:45.57, better than two seconds faster than the prior program best of 7:48.06 from the Radford Invitational in 2011.
With 56 points, the Mount is 18 behind first-place Wagner with 74 points. Four-time defending champion Saint Francis U is in second place, followed closely by Bryant and Central Connecticut in third and fourth, respectively. The Mount is in fifth ahead of Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn.
