Box Score South Bend, Ind. (December 9, 2014)—Mount St. Mary's fell to #25 Notre Dame, 93-67, on Tuesday night at the Joyce Center. Chris Martin scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Mountaineers in the game.
Martin hit 7-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, for his career-best 19-point effort. Will Miller added 12 points and four rebounds, converting 3-of-8 three-pointers in the game. Freshman point guard Junior Robinson chipped in eight points and five assists for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers hit a season-high 13 three-pointers in the loss. The Mount shot 36.8 percent overall and was 13-of-35 (.371) from the three-point arc.
Zach Auguste, Steve Vasturia and Jerian Grant each scored 19 points for Notre Dame in the win. Notre Dame, the top shooting team in the nation, hit 59.0 percent from the floor in the game.
After falling behind 14-3 in the early minutes, the Mount (2-5) responded with a 15-to-8 run to get right back in the game. Martin capped the run by connecting on back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Notre Dame advantage to 22-18 with 11:30 left in the first half. Notre Dame, however, closed out the half on a 30-to-9 run to take a 52-27 lead at the break.
Martin paced Mount St. Mary's with 12 first-half points, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc. Vasturia and Auguste each had 14 points for Notre Dame (9-1) in the half.
Mount St. Mary's returns home to face Norfolk State on Saturday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Knott Arena. Last year, the Mountaineers hit 18-of-25 (.720) from three-point range in a 104-84 win over the Spartans.
