FIRST FIVE
1. Mount St. Mary's downed rival Loyola, 74-65, on Saturday night in the 170th meeting between the two teams. The Mount holds a 98-72 lead in the most-played rivalry in the state of Maryland. Byron Ashe scored a season-high 16 points off the bench while Kristijan Krajina (12 pts, 8 rebs.) and Gregory Graves (10 pts., 9 rebs.) provided a solid inside game. The Mount scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 35-30 lead, and never trailed again. Loyola cut the Mount lead to 57-55, but Ashe hit a three-pointer and Khalid Nwandu converted a traditional three-point play to put the Mountaineers back in control.
2. Mount St. Mary's is 2-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points. Under head coach Jamion Christian, the Mount is now 30-11 when scoring 70 or more, and just 6-24 when failing to reach that mark.
3. Head coach Jamion Christian refers to his team's style of play as Mayhem. Mount Mayhem features a pressing defense couple with an offense that relies on the three-point shot. The Mount has set school records for three-pointers made and attempted in each of the past two seasons.
4. The Mountaineers have a tough non-conference schedule with games against Arizona, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Wake Foerst and Old Dominion. The Mount's non-conference schedule is currently ranked the 41st-most difficult schedule in the nation by KenPom.
5. The Mount returns home on Saturday, Dec. 13, to face Norfolk State. Last season, the Mountaineers hit 18-of-25 (.720) from three-point range in a 104-84 win over the Spartans.
