Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (December 22, 2014)--Andrew Smeathers hit a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds left to lift Mount St. Mary's to a 69-68 win over visiting Binghamton at Knott Arena on Monday night.  Chris Martin paced the Mount with 18 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

The Mount led the entire game until Binghamton's Willie Rodriguez converted a pair of free throws with 13.8 seconds on the clock that gave the Bearcats a 68-67 advantage.

The Mountaineers (4-6) then inbounded the ball and called timeout at midcourt with 9.1 seconds left.  Smeathers received the ball on the right wing, and was fouled.  He calmly went to the line and sank both shots with 2.9 seconds left.

Binghamton's Yosef Yacob's half-court shot at the buzzer hit the front of the rim, and the Mount was able to secure the victory.

Martin went 8-for-15 from the field while collecting a career-best eight rebounds to pace the Mount in the win.  Kristijan Krajina added 14 points while Junior Robinson tallied 12 points and five assists.

Rodriguez scored a career-high 25 points while adding seven rebounds for Binghamton (1-13).  Dusan Perovic added 15 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the field and all three of his three-point attempts.

The Mountaineers took control of the game early, jumping to a 23-9 lead in the opening 10 minutes.  Khalid Nwandu scored six of the Mount's first 11 points while Will Miller added a pair of three-point baskets during the run.

Trailing 25-11 with 8:37 left in the first half, Binghamton was able to whittle the deficit to 32-25 at the break.

The Bearcats scored the first point of the second half to make it a six-point game, but the Mount answered with a quick eight points to regain a 14-point lead at 40-26.  Robinson and Krajina each hit three-pointers with Martin adding a bucket in the 8-0 run.

Binghamton fought back, cutting the Mount advantage to 49-44 with 12:13 left on a Rodriguez bucket.  The Mount pushed the lead back to double digits when Martin hit a three-pointer and a jumper.

The Mount held a 65-59 lead with 3:46 left after a Robinson drive to the basket, but Rodriguez answered with five consecutive points to make it 65-64 with 1:55 left.  Martin's jumper with 1:39 left gave the Mount a three-point lead again, but Perovic's basket with 1:15 remaining cut the Mount lead to 67-66.

After a Mount turnover, Binghamton had a couple of chances to take the lead, but did not convert, and was forced to foul.  The Mount's Robinson then missed the front end of a 1-and-1, setting up the final 15 seconds of action.

Binghamton shot 56.8 percent in the game and was 7-for-13 (.538) from three-point range.  The Mount shot 43.1 percent and was 8-for-25 (.320) from three-point range.  The Mount held a 33-to-28 advantage on the boards, and forced Binghamton into 20 turnovers.
