Mount St. Mary's Women's Basketball Set for Home Opener Versus Delaware St. on Wednesday

MOUNT UPDATE: After four road games to begin the season, the Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team plays at Knott Arena against Delaware State, marking the first meeting between the two sides since 2004. Jacqueline Brewer, the Mount's second-leading scorer with 10.7 points per game in 2013-14, has upped her scoring average to 11.5 points per game as a senior. Through four games, the Mount has used three different starting lineups.

LAST TIME OUT: Four Mount players scored in double figures for the first time this season in a 67-62 loss at Davidson on Nov. 23. Mount St. Mary's led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but could not hold off a second-half charge by Davidson, which outscored the Mount by a 44-29 margin in the second half. Jacqueline Brewer scored eight points in both halves to lead the Mount with 16 points, while Kathleen Belanger-Finn tripled her career-high for points with 15 off the bench. Jenn Carney added 15 points, and Sarafina Arthur-Williams posted 11 points.

ABOUT DELAWARE STATE: Following losses to Northern Kentucky, Binghamton and George Mason, Delaware State downed Division II Millersville, 71-60, on Nov. 24. Delaware State's offense is led by the high-scoring duo of Raven Bankston and Tierra Hawkins, who are both averaging 21.8 points per game. The Lady Hornets, which compiled an 8-21 record a year ago, were selected 12th out of 13 teams in the MEAC Preseason Poll. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. THE LADY HORNETS: The Mount has not faced Delaware State since a neutral site tournament in Jersey City, N.J. on Dec. 30, 2004. Delaware State earned a 53-40 win over the Mount as part of the Saint Peter's Christmas Classic. The last time the two sides squared off, Head Coach Bryan Whitten, now in his eighth season with the Mount, was in his final year as the head coach of Division III King's College.

MOUNT IN HOME OPENERS: In home openers, the Mount has gone 25-15 all time, 12-14 since moving to Division I prior to the 1988-89 season and 2-5 under Head Coach Bryan Whitten.  The Mountaineers fell by an 83-82 final score to Davidson in last year's home opener, and the Mount's last win in a home opener was a 52-45 victory over Navy on Nov. 26, 2011.

MOUNT AT KNOTT ARENA: Mount St. Mary's posted an 11-4 record at Knott Arena during the 2013-14 season to improve Head Coach Bryan Whitten's home record to 48-50. Since the venue opened prior to the 1987-88 campaign, Mount St. Mary's has put together a 236-119 record.

MOUNT VS. THE MEAC: Against the teams currently in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Mount's record is 25-18 overall, 13-7 since moving to Division I prior to the 1988-89 season and 4-3 in Bryan Whitten's eight-year Mount St. Mary's career.
