Mount Women's Basketball Handed 60-42 Road Loss at Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C. (November 21, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team suffered a 60-42 road loss at Campbell on Friday night at Gore Arena. Junior point guard Jody Chickey scored eight of her team-high 10 points in the second half to lead the Mount, which outscored Campbell, 27-26, in the final 20 minutes.

Playing their third road game in a row to begin the year, the Mountaineers (0-3) picked up a nine-point effort from senior Jacqueline Brewer. Amanda Coffer netted a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds to lead the Lady Camels (3-1), which shot 43.6 percent (24-for-55) from the field.

With the Lady Camels holding an early lead, Brewer's three-pointer from straight away gave the Mountaineers their first lead at 5-3. After consecutive buckets helped the Lady Camels regain the advantage, Chickey pulled the Mount even at 7-7 by finishing a layup at the rim.

Down 12-7 later in the half, Brewer hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 12-9 with 14:46 showing on the first-half clock.

From there, the Mount's offense went cold as Campbell embarked on a 19-0 run that concluded with a Summer Leverette jumper with 3:40 left before halftime. A layup by Kayla Bates at the 2:48 mark put the Mount back on the board with the Lady Camels holding a 31-11 advantage.

Campbell took a 34-15 lead heading into the locker room after shooting 13-for-19 (68.4 percent) in the opening 20 minutes.

Following the intermission, the Lady Camels' hot shooting continued as the home side scored seven of the second half's first nine points for a 41-17 edge just over four minutes into the half. Later in the half, Jessica Harris knocked down three-pointers on consecutive possessions to put the score at 52-26 with 10:55 left.

The Mountaineers closed the game on a 7-0 run over the final 1:34 to outscore Campbell in the second half.

Starting her first game of the season, junior Sarafina Arthur-Williams scored six points and pulled down a team-best five rebounds. The Mountaineers shot 15-for-51 (29.4 percent) on field goals on the night.

The Mount will remain on the road to take on Davidson on Sunday, Nov. 23. Tipoff in Davidson, N.C. is set for 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES: Mount St. Mary's falls to 1-2 versus Campbell in the all-time series… Junior Sarafina Arthur-Williams made the first start of her Mount St. Mary's career after starting five games as a freshman at UNC Greensboro during the 2012-13 season... Jody Chickey secured her fourth career double-digit scoring game.
