FIRST FIVE
1. Mount St. Mary's fell behind early and never recovered in a 53-41 loss to UMES on Wednesday in the home opener. UMES led 14-4 early and pushed the advantage to 26-11 at the half. The Mount scored the first eight points of the second half, and cut the deficit to 36-31 with nine minutes left in the game. UMES, however, held the Mount without a field goal for seven minutes down the stretch to earn the win. Byron Ashe led the Mountaineers with nine points while Junior Robinson chipped in eight points and four assists.
2. The Mount has struggled on the offensive end of the floor so far this season. Mount St. Mary's is averaging 48.0 points per game while connecting on 34.3 percent from the field and 29.5 percent from three-point range. The team's 41-point effort against UMES was the lowest point total under head coach Jamion Christian.
3. The Mountaineers have emplyed a balanced rotation so far this season with nine players averaging 10 or more minutes. Taylor Danaher averages a team-high 28.5 minutes with Junior Robinson second on the team at 26.5 minutes.
4. The Mount's game at Bucknell is the start of a five-game road trip. Mount St. Mary's will play at Wake Forest (Nov. 26), Seton Hall (Dec. 2), Loyola (Dec. 6) and Notre Dame (Dec. 9) to round out the five-game swing.
5. Mount St. Mary's plays at Wake Forest on Wednesday, November 26, at 7 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN3. The Mount is 0-3 all-time against the Demon Deacons, including a 108-61 loss in the last meeting on Nov. 16, 2000.
