Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (March 27, 2013)-- Bre Lohman and Erin Leddy homered in back-to-back innings to help Mount St. Mary's defeat Lafayette, 11-3, in game two on Wednesday to earn a split of the non-conference doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The Leopards took the first game, 5-0.
The Mount (8-15) knocked 13 hits in game two, which is tied for the second most by the team this season with hits from nine different players. Liz Christiansen also picked up her 102nd career RBI to move into a tie with Amanda Burk for the most in school history.
The Mountaineers jumped on Lafayette (5-12) in the nightcap with two runs in the bottom of the first. After Megan Baker reached on a bunt single and Holly Buckel advanced her to third on a bunt of her own and a Lafayette throwing error, Cat Clifford recorded a two-RBI double down the right field line.
Lafayette got one run back in the top of the third on Brittany Paul's RBI knock up the middle to cut the Mount's lead to 2-1.
Four more runs in the bottom of the frame helped the Mount take a 6-1 lead. Rachel Teti's double to center plated Christiansen, who led off the inning with a single. The next batter, Lohman, crushed a 2-2 offering over the fence in right for her second home run of the season. Buckel capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single.
With runners on first and second in the top of the fourth, Lafayette's Victoria Vergona hit a double to score two runners for a 6-3 score.
The Mount bounced back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and one Lafayette error. Christiansen tied the career RBI mark with a single to score Rachel Gavigan, and Leddy homered to center on the first pitch of her at bat for a 9-3 advantage. A throwing error by the Leopards allowed two more runs to score for the 11-3 final.
Sophomore Danni Cummings allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four for her first win of the season. Megan Baker turned in a 3-for-3 performance in game two with two runs scored.
The Mount could not get its offense going in game one as Lafayette's starter Melissa Robinson yielded just two hits in a complete-game shutout. Robinson also made a difference with the bat in the game with a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning.
In the circle for the Mount, Hayley Stankan struck out a season-high seven batters, but Lafayette scored five runs on five hits.
The Leopards manufactured a run in the first when Jordan Parsons singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt and an illegal pitch before scoring on a wild pitch. Robinson's double made it 4-0 for Lafayette in the sixth and Kelly Lallis scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for a 5-0 final score.
The Mount will return to Northeast Conference play with a doubleheader at Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. on Friday, March 29, at noon.
