Washington, D.C. (November 16, 2013) – Powered by first-place finishes in 10 of the 14 events and a school record by Haley Fournier, the Mount women's swimming team picked up two wins on Saturday afternoon. The Mount defeated Howard by a final score of 189-51 and Mary Washington by a 139-119 total.
Fournier, who won three individual events on the day, set the school record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:31.35. The previous best in program history was 2:33.49 set by Heather Kurtzman in 2010 at the Northeast Conference Championships. Fournier is the first Mount swimmer to break a school record this season.
Fournier also notched individual victories for the Mount (3-2) in the 100 breast (1:09.24) and the 200 IM (2:14.00) and helped the 200 medley relay team capture first (1:51.84).
Also picking up three individual wins and a victory in a relay was Erin Regan. The junior touched the wall first in the 200 fly (2:14.67) as well as in the 100 free (54.17) and the 100 fly (1:00.20). Regan contributed to the Mount's winning squad in the 200 free relay (1:40.03).
Mollie Walsh continued her strong senior campaign by taking first place in the 50 free (24.85), turning in a second-place finish in the 100 fly (1:03.05) and helping the Mount win relays in the 200 medley and the 200 free.
In addition to winning the 200 free (1:59.11), freshman Amanda Moore placed second in the 500 free (5:26.73) and played a crucial role in the Mountaineers winning both relays as well.
Another freshman, Sarah Bonson, took home second place in the 200 fly (2:18.15) and the 400 IM (4:53.97).
The winning relay combination in the 200 medley (1:51.84) was made up of Moore, Fournier, Walsh and freshman Allison Baker, while Moore, Walsh, Regan and sophomore Lenna Castro Marquez won the 200 free relay (1:40.03).
The Mount will have five days to prepare for the Radford Invitational, scheduled for Nov. 21-23.
