Erin Leddy Walk-Off Home Run Highlights Softball Split with Wagner

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 29, 2012)--Erin Leddy hit a walk-off home run to lift Mount St. Mary's to a 4-3 win in the opening game of a doubleheader at Our Lady of Meadow Field on campus on Sunday afternoon.  The Seahawks clipped the Mount, 4-3, with a run in the seventh inning in game two.

In the opening game, the Mount rallied from deficits on two occasions to force extra innings to set up Leddy's heroics.  Wagner (16-34, 5-15 NEC) took the early lead on a Kristen Matteoni two-run homer in the top of the third inning.

The Mount answered in the bottom of the sixth when Maria Santiago walked and Liz Christansen belted a two-run homer to even the score.

Wagner regained the lead in the top of the seventh on an Ashley Oslen RBI double.  The Seahawks then loaded the bases with two outs, but Mount pitcher Amanda Sadowl was able to escape the jam with a fly out to center.

Mount St. Mary's (16-33, 7-11 NEC) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Christiansen sacrifice fly.  The Mount had loaded the bases on three consecutive walks.

Leddy ended the game in dramatic fashion when she belted a one-out home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Danni Cummings pitched two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.  Sadowl allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings in the start.

At the plate, Christiansen went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI with Leddy finishing 2-for-4 with her walk-off home run.

In the second game, Wagner scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to earn the 4-3 victory.

Matteoni singled to open the inning, and moved to third on a Mount error.  With two outs, Brittany Huss singled to right to plate Matteoni with the go-ahead run.

The Mount had tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Kelly Hickman and Amanda Tuck posted back-to-back one-out singles to start the rally.  After a fly out, Lindsey Ruhle doubled to left-center field to plate both runners to even the score at 3-3.

Wagner scored twice in the first to take the early lead with the Mount getting a run back in the bottom of the frame when Cat Lifford reached on a fielder's choice with Leddy scoring.  Leddy and Christiansen had singles in the inning to put runners on first and third with one out.

Ruhle went 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Mount offense in game two while Tuck, Leddy, Christiansen and Hickman all had a hit.

Nicole Pagano took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in seven innings.  She struck out eight in the game.

The Mount returns to action on Thursday, May 3, at Howard.
