Mount Men's Lacrosse Loses High-Scoring Affair at Robert Morris, 17-14

Moon Township, Pa. (April 14, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's lost a high-scoring game at Robert Morris, 17-14, on Saturday afternoon.  Andrew Scalley paced the Mount with four goals and an assist in the loss.

Scalley scored a team-high four goals while Brett Schmidt added two goals and four assists for a team-high six points in the loss.  Bryant Schmidt chipped in a hat trick with Jake Willertz tallying a pair of goals for the Mount in the game.  Christian Kellett, Daniel Stranix and Anthony Golden also had goals in the loss.

Dave Morton paced Robert Morris with three goals and three assists as 10 different Colonials scored in the contest.  Jake Hayes added three goals and an assist while Kiel Matisz and Kyle Buchanan each added two goals and an assist in the victory.

Robert Morris (9-3, 3-0 NEC) broke into the scoring column just 15 seconds into the contest on a Matisz goal.  The Mount (3-7, 0-3 NEC) rebounded on goals by Bryant Schmidt and Golden to take a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter, but Morton scored just five seconds after Golden's tally to start a three-goal Robert Morris run.

Andrew Scalley answered with back-to-back goals to knot the game at 4-4, but Chris Barney's goal pushed Robert Morris ahead, 5-4, after the first quarter.

The Colonials opened the second quarter with four unanswered scores to grab a 9-4 advantage.  Teddy Finnegan, Taylor Graves, Casey Abbott and Hayes all scored in the streak for Robert Morris.  Willertz stopped the run with a man-up goal for the Mount and Scalley's third goal of the game cut the RMU lead to 9-6.  Robert Morris, however, got a pair of goals in the final 1:40 of the half to take an 11-6 lead.  Morton scored the first and Kevin Brownell tallied a goal with just two seconds left in the half.

Robert Morris took control by scoring four of the first five goals in the second half for a commanding 15-7 advantage.  The Colonials pushed the advantage to 17-9 when Casey Abbott scored with 8:49 left in the game.

The Mount made things close by scoring five times in the final 7:20 for the final score of 17-14.

Robert Morris held a 48-36 advantage in shots and a 32-20 edge in ground balls.  The Mount's Chris Klaiber made nine saves while allowing 17 goals in 51:11 of playing time while Charles Ruppert made four saves in the victory for Robert Morris.

The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 21, against Sacred Heart.  Face-off is set for 1:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
