Box Score Bethesda, Md. (April 10, 2012)—Mount St. Mary's lost at Georgetown, 5-3, in a non-conference matchup at Shirley Povich Field on Tuesday night. The game was the first of a 17-game road trip for the Mountaineers.
The Mount (11-24) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Nick Walker walked and then came around to score on a Mark Quaranta double. Josh Winter followed with a two-run homer to stretch the Mount lead to three. It was Winter's fourth home run of the year and he now has a team-high 32 RBI.
The Hoyas (16-17) got a run back in the bottom of the first when Justin Leeson singled, stole second, and scored on a Mike Garza base hit.
Georgetown took the lead in the second, scoring three unearned runs off Mount starter Chris Campbell. With two outs, Leeson's infield single plated Nick Geary to cut the deficit to 3-2. An error on the Mount left fielder on the next play allowed two more runs to score, giving Georgetown a 4-3 lead.
The Hoyas added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a Rand Ravnaas bunt single.
Campbell struck out six while allowing four runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings on the mound. Nick Riley struck out three in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief while Scott Nickerson and Karl Lamont also tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the game.
Andrew Clow went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss while Quaranta, Winter, Michael Foster and Zack Schramm had hits in the game for the Mountaineers.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday, April 13, with a 3:00 p.m. game at Quinnipiac. It is the first of a four-game Northeast Conference series.
