HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac scored seven of the final 11 points to come away with a 65-61 victory against Mount St. Mary's in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday.

Sydney Henderson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) paced the Mount (14-16) with 13 points while Kayla Grossett (Toronto, Ontario/David and Mary Thompson C.I.) added 10 points. Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield), an All-NEC second-team selection, chipped in nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals in the loss.

Felicia Barron fueled the Bobcats (22-8) with 15 points. Jasmine Martin added 12 points and Samantha Gustella posted 11 points. Brittany McQuain narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 17 rebounds in the winning effort.

The game was a seesaw battle for the entire contest. The game came down to the final four minutes when Quinnipiac scored seven of the final 11 points to move onto the NEC Semifinals on Tuesday. It marked the second time Mount St. Mary's and Quinnipiac met in the NEC Tournament and the first time since 2008.

Rachel Mathews (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) tied the contest for the ninth time with a layup at 58 with 3:50 remaining. Barron regained the lead for the Bobcats with two free throws at 2:45 before Martin hit 1 of 2 at the line at 2:08 for a 61-58 lead.

Mann and Gustella traded baskets and then Barron and Mann traded 1 of 2 at the line to maintain a three-point margin with 12 seconds left. McQuain sealed the game with a free throw with seven seconds left.

Quinnipiac jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the Mount rallied to tie the game at 7. The rest of the first half neither team could take larger than a five-point lead. The Bobcats grabbed the lead four times in the final 16:30 while the Mountaineers took the advantage three times in that span.

With the game tied at 27, Quinnipiac got the ball with less than 12 seconds left on the defensive end of the court and came down to find Camryn Warner with a layup as time expired to give the Bobcats a 29-27 lead going into the locker room.

Warner helped increase the margin to eight points after starting the second half with consecutive baskets before Barron gave the Bobcats a 35-27 lead with 18:16 left on a layup.

Quinnipiac grabbed a 50-40 advantage with 12:12 remaining only to see the Mountaineers go on a 10-0 run. Grossett started the run with a layup at 11:58 and Henderson scored in the lane at 11:39. After Grossett hit two free throws at 10:36, Henderson scored in the lane and converted two free throws to cap the 10-0 run and knot the game at 50 with 9:16 remaining.

The Bobcats would take the lead and Mount St. Mary's would answer to tie the game five times over the next six minutes. Quinnipiac then scored seven of the final 11 points to defeat the Mount for the second time in the league's postseason.

The game was a closely contested contest. Both teams made 22-of-63 shots from the floor. The Mountaineers made three more 3-pointers, but Quinnipiac converted 20-for-30 from the free throw line while Mount St. Mary's converted 13 of 19 from the charity stripe. The Bobcats held a 48-44 edge on the boards.  

The Mount participated in the NEC Tournament for the 21st time in 23 years and the first time since 2008-09. Mann's eight assists were the third most by a Mount player in an NEC Tournament game while her five steals ranked second.

The contest marked the final game for senior Sandra Andresson (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentes School). Andresson tied the program record for games played (116) and placed fourth in starts with 102. The senior finished her career with 702 points, 370 rebounds, 148 assists, 25 blocks and 62 steals.

Mount St. Mary's finished the season 14-16. The 14 wins was a six game improvement from 2010-11 and the Mount went 10-8 in league play for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The squad also notched a six-game winning streak, the longest since the 2000-01 campaign.
