Sacred Heart Downs Softball In Rare Non-Conference Game At UMBC Spring Classic, 12-4

BALTIMORE, Md. – Sacred Heart defeated Mount St. Mary's 12-4 at the UMBC Spring Classic in non-conference softball action on Saturday.

Katy Bobbitt (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) paced the Mount (6-15) with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Cat Clifford (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) added a two-run homer and Bre Lohman (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) had a hit and an RBI in the loss.

Jade Bowins fueled the Pioneers (7-12) after going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Liz Tsipouras added two hits and three RBIs while Nicole Sidor added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI in the winning effort.

Sacred Heart scored the first 10 runs of the game and never looked back to take the rare non-conference contest between Northeast Conference foes. The two teams will face each other in eight days at Our Lady of the Meadows Field in the opening weekend of NEC play.

The Pioneers scored nine runs on four hits in the second and one run on two hits in the third to take a 10-0 advantage.

The Mount then scored two runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to trim the margin to 10-4. Bobbitt singled to center field and touched home on Clifford's second home run of the second in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Mountaineers recorded back-to-back doubles off the bat of Rachel Teti (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) and Lohman before Bobbitt singled to right field to plate pinch runner Lindsey Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional).

The Pioneers then ended the game after five innings after they scored two runs in the fifth.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday at the UMBC Spring Classic. The Mount will battle Brown for the first time in program history at 11:25 a.m. and Georgetown at 3:45 p.m.
