Christiansen Ties Program Career Home Run Mark To Help Softball Split At Dawg Pound Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BALTIMORE, Md. – Redshirt junior Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land) registered three home runs to tie the program's all-time career home run record and help Mount St. Mary's split two games at the Dawg Pound Invitational in non-conference softball action on Saturday. The Mount (4-11) fell to Siena 8-5 in the opener before defeating host UMBC 11-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

Christiansen, who needed three homers to tie former teammate Beth Everist (18, 2008-11) and Danyale Goode (18, 2003-06) for the all-time career home run record, had not registered a long ball in the 13 games in Florida. She smacked her first home run of the season against the Saints and then went yard twice against the Retrievers to tie the all-time mark. Christiansen went 4-for-8 on the afternoon with three homers and seven RBIs.

Nicole Pagano (Berlin, N.J./St. Joseph) pitched the second game to earn her fourth win of the year after tossing a five-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts against UMBC. It was the squad's first no-hitter since Amanda Hanson had a five inning no-hitter in a 30-0 win against Coppin State on Mar. 27, 2008.

Holly Buckel (Finksburg, Md./North Carroll) added four hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Mountaineers while Alexa Tuck (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) had two hits, three runs scored, her first collegiate homer and two RBIs. Bre Lohman (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) also had her first career round tripper on the day.

Mount St. Mary's scored four runs in the first, six in the second and one in the fourth to come away with an 11-0 win against UMBC in the second game. The Mount has now won four consecutive against the Retrievers.

Buckel started the four-run rally in the first with a single and then came around to score on Christiansen's home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. Cat Clifford (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) reached on an opposite field single and touched home on Lohman's RBI single to right field. Tuck, who reached on a fielder's choice, gave the Mount a 4-0 lead when she scored on a wild pitch.

In the second, Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) singled and came around to score on Buckel's RBI single. Christiansen then increased the lead to 7-0 when she smacked a two-run round tripper to tie the program's career home run mark. Clifford singled and Tuck reached on a walk and both runners came home on Lohman's first career homer to cap a six-run inning and give the Mountaineers a 10-0 lead.

Mount St. Mary's added a run in the fourth after Clifford walked and touched home on Chloe Mizianty's (Carlsdbad, Calif./Carlsbad) RBI single to seal the 11-0 five inning win.

The Mount started the Dawg Pound Invitational with an 8-5 loss to Siena.

With the game tied at 2, the Saints scored three times in the bottom of the second and three runs in the third to take an 8-3 lead.

Mount St. Mary's answered with three runs in the fifth to trim the margin to 8-5. Leddy singled through the left side and Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) walked before Christiansen blasted her first homer of the season to make it a three-run game, but the Mountaineers could get no closer the rest of the way.

Siena struck first with two runs in the first, but Mount St. Mary's tied the game in the second. Alyssa Silipino (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) singled and came around to score on Tuck's first career long ball before the Saints scored six unanswered runs to take the first meeting between the two teams.

Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took the loss after pitching the first two innings. Freshman Danni Cummings (Owings, Md./Northern) allowed an unearned run in the final four innings on three hits.

In addition to tying the program's home run record, Christiansen moved into fifth place for career RBIs with 72.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday with two games at the Dawg Pound Invitational. The Mount will battle Niagara at 9 a.m. at the UMBC Softball Complex and then will move to Coppin State to face the Eagles at 1:35 p.m. at the Coppin State Field.
