Box Score 2 DELAND, Fla. – Stetson swept a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's in non-conference softball action on Thursday. The Hatters (10-2) won the opener 7-1 and then took the nightcap, 8-0 in five innings.
Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) paced the Mount (2-6) with three hits in the two games while Alyssa Silipino (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) had two hits in the opener.
In the opener, Stetson downed the Mount 7-1.
Hayley Stankan (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) made her collegiate debut for the Mount and tossed the first three innings and took the loss while Nicole Pagano (Berlin, N.J./St. Joseph) threw the final three innings.
The Hatters took an early lead with a run in the first and three runs in the third.
Mount St. Mary's answered with a run in the top of the fourth. Beebe led off the inning with a single to left field and she moved up to second on a fielding error. Cat Clifford (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) then plated Beebe with an RBI single to center to trim the margin to 4-1.
Stetson responded right back with a run in the bottom of the inning and added two runs in the sixth.
The Hatters then posted four runs in the first, two in the third and two in the fourth to take the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.
Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) pitched the first 2.2 innings and took the defeat before Danni Cummings (Calvert County, Md./Northern) recorded the final four outs.
Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) gave the Mountaineers a couple of scoring chances in the game. The junior doubled to left field in the second and move to third on a passed ball with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning. Leddy walked to lead off the fifth and moved to third on a wild pitch with one out, but a strikeout and a pop out ended the game.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the North Florida Invitational on Friday. The Mount will face Delaware State at 4:15 p.m. and St. Bonaventure at 6:30 p.m.
