DELAND, Fla. – Mount St. Mary's lost a pair of games at the Hatter Classic in non-conference softball action on Saturday. The Mount (1-3) lost 7-6 to Bethune-Cookman and then fell 2-0 to Stetson.

Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land) paced the Mountaineers with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored while Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) added two hits and a run scored while Cat Clifford (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) posted two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the two games.

Mount St. Mary's jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the top of the seventh inning before the Eagles (3-9) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the come-from-behind 7-6 victory.

Freshman Danni Cummings (Calvert County, Md./Northern) was impressive in her first six innings of her collegiate debut after allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. In the seventh, Bethune-Cookman scored a run on a wild pitch, three runs on a double and a walk-off single to earn the win.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first.

Mount St. Mary's exploded for five runs in the third. Maria Santiago (Buena, N.J./Buena Regional), Beebe and Mizianty loaded the bases with one out after three-consecutive singles. Christiansen then plated two runs on a single to left field to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) plated Mizianty on an RBI single through the left side before Katy Bobbitt (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) brought home Christiansen on a groundout for a 5-1 lead.

Bethune-Cookman made it a 5-2 game with its second solo homer of the game in the sixth.

Mount St. Mary's responded with a run in the top of the seventh. Mizianty reached on an error and scored on Clifford's RBI single to left field for a 6-2 margin. The Mount had runners on first and second with one out and loaded the bases with two outs, but could not push a run across and the Eagles scored five times in the bottom of the inning to rally for the win.

In the nightcap, the Hatters (8-2) avenged the 1-0 loss to the Mountaineers from Friday with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

Nicole Pagano (Berlin, N.J./St. Joseph), who tossed a one-hit shutout in the 1-0 win yesterday, allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in the loss.

Stetson scored a run in the sixth on a single up the middle and added an insurance run on a run-scoring double in the seventh.

The Mount had a couple of chances to score against the Hatters, but could not convert.

In the first, Beebe walked and Christiansen doubled to left field to put runners on second and third with one out, but consecutive strikeouts ended the threat. In the third, Beebe and Christiansen walked with one out, but a fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the inning. Bre Lohman (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) singled with one out in the seventh and Beebe walked with two outs, but a pop out ended the game.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action against Stetson in the final game of the Hatters Classic on Sunday. Game time is 12 p.m.
