CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished third in the 50 free and anchored the second place 200-free relay to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team to a fifth-place standing after the second day at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimming & Diving Championships.
Griffith placed third in the 50 free (23.84) to notch her second career Top-3 finish at the championships. The junior finished second in the100 fly last season to notch the squad's best individual finish. Griffith finished fourth in the 50 free as a sophomore.
Griffith also anchored the 200-free relay to the squad's best relay finish in team history at the championships. Anne Thelen (Raleigh, N.C./Archbishop Spalding), Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) and Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) swam the first three legs of the second-place relay (1:35.12).
Coppler finished sixth in the 200 IM (2:08.26) and Walsh was seventh in the 50 free (24.37). Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) finished eighth in the 500 free (5:07.19).
Central Connecticut State leads the event with a score of 237, 13 points ahead of Saint Francis (Pa.) (224) while Bryant (180), Wagner (161), the Mount (147), Sacred Heart (84) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (74) round out the seven-team field.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the NEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday. The squad will compete in the 400 IM, the 100 fly, the 200 free, the 100 breast, the 100 back and the 400-medley relay in the third day of competition. Preliminaries start at 11 a.m. with the finals slated to start at 7 p.m.
