STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) nearly became the second player in Mount St. Mary's Division I history, finishing the game with 10 rebounds, 10 assists and seven points to lift the Mount past Wagner 71-48 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Mann notched her fourth career double-double after finishing the game with 10 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. Mann had seven points in the first eight minutes of the game and had a couple of 3-point attempts in the final two minutes, but could not get the ball to fall through the twine to become the first player since Kim Rhock to register a triple-double in 1990. Mann did become the first Mount player in the team's Division I era to notch a double-double without having 10 points.

Ashley Christie (Miamisburg, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) paced the Mountaineers (10-14, 6-7 NEC) with 15 points. Sydney Henderson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) added 14 points, Jessie Kaufman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) recorded 12 points and Tara Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) chipped in 11 points in the winning effort.

Kelly Clark paced the Seahawks (2-22, 1-12 NEC) with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Mount St. Mary's took the lead early in the contest and never looked back to take the opening game against Wagner of the NEC's Rivalry Week.  

After Wagner scored the first three points of the game, the Mount scored the next 10 points and 18 of the next 19 points to grab an 18-4 advantage with 12:10 left in the first half.

Clark scored on a layup 27 seconds into the game and then hit 1 of 2 at the free throw line at 19:07 to give the Seahawks their only lead.

Mann started a 10-0 run for the Mountaineers with a jumper at 18:55 before Rachel Mathews (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian)  gave the Mount the lead for good on a jumper of her own at 18:34. Mann and Christie then drained consecutive 3-pointers for a 10-3 lead with 15:52 on the clock.

Chanez Robinson momentarily halted the Mount St. Mary's run with a free throw at 14:01, but the Mount rolled off the next eight points to take a 14-point lead eight minutes into the contest. Mathews, Mann, Lonergan and Henderson each posted baskets in a span of two minutes and 23 seconds to hand Mount St. Mary's an 18-6 margin.

The Mount would increase the advantage to 20 points after a Christie jumper with 2:06 remaining in the half before going into the locker room with a 36-20 lead.

Wagner started the second half by scoring 18 of the first 26 points to trim the margin to 44-36 with 14:33 left in the game after a Kanifa Hicks jumper. Clark powered the run with seven points. Lonergan answered for the Mountaineers with a jumper 16 seconds later to start a 9-0 run and the Seahawks could get no closer the rest of the way.

Mathews finished the game with eight points and seven rebounds. The Mountaineers have won 10 games for the third time under head coach Bryan Whitten.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action when the two teams head to Knott Arena to complete the NEC's Rivalry Week and the North-South Showdown on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
