Box Score 2 MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Robert Morris defeated Mount St. Mary's in
a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) softball games on Sunday to
earn the NEC regular season title and the right to host the
upcoming NEC Tournament. The Colonials downed the Mount 4-0 and
14-0 in five innings.
Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) paced the Mount
(15-31, 5-15 NEC) with three hits while Beth Everist (Lansdale,
Pa./North Penn) added two hits in the twinbill. Everist pitched the
opener and took the loss with four strikeouts while Amanda Hanson
(La Plata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) took the loss in the second
game.
Trying to have an effect on the NEC Tournament for the
second-straight day, the Mount was shutout in both games. After
knocking Monmouth out of the NEC Tournament with a 5-2 win in the
nightcap on Saturday, if the Mount would have downed the Colonials
in one of the games on Sunday then Sacred Heart would have been the
No. 1 seed and Robert Morris would have to travel to Fairfield,
Conn. With the sweep of the Mount, Robert Morris will now make
three Connecticut schools (Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and Central
Connecticut State) make the trek to Western Pennsylvania for the
tournament.
The doubleheader marked the end of collegiate careers of
Everist, Hanson, Zingle, Nicole Reeder (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) and Jenna Zimmerman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville).
Hanson, Everist and Reeder each singled in their final at-bat.
Everist finished her career tied with Danyale Goode (18,
2003-06) for the program's career all-time home run mark while
ranking second in RBIs (89), seventh in total bases (186) and ninth
in doubles (22). Hanson finished her career fifth in games pitched
(84), seventh in strikeouts (192), eighth in innings pitched
(356.2) and 10th in wins (15). Reeder ends her collegiate career as
the program's all-time leader in games played (197) and walks (62),
and ranks fourth in at bats (528), sixth in RBIs (70), seventh in
doubles (25) and ninth in total bases (170) and 11th in hits (124).
Zimmerman finishes her career seventh in games played (161) while
Zingle ends her playing days at the Mount second in at bats (571),
third in RBIs (86), third in games played (190), fourth in runs
scored (88), sixth in doubles (27), sixth in home runs (10) and
third in total bases (222).
Mount St. Mary's concluded the first season under head coach
Anna Nagro 15-31 overall and 5-15 in league play.
