New Britain, Conn. (April 9, 2011)-Mount St.
Mary's lost both ends of a Northeast Conference doubleheader at
Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. The Mount lost
the opener, 4-0, and fell 7-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Dave Krasnowiecki held the Mount to three hits in
tossing the complete-game shutout. Jake Matuszak tripled to lead
off the bottom of the first and scored on a groundout to give CCSU
(12-12-1, 8-7 NEC) at 1-0 lead.
A Pat Epps sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 2-0 and the Blue
Devils sealed the win with two runs in the sixth.
Michael Foster, Zach Helman and Brandon Scott had the hits for
the Mount. Vincent Molesky allowed four earned runs in 5.2 innings
to take the loss.
In the second game, the Blue Devils scored five times in the
first and two more in the second to take a 7-0 lead and held on for
the 7-4 victory.
In the first, CCSU had runners on the corners with two outs
before rallying for five runs. All five runs came with two outs in

Sportman each had RBI singles to give the Blue Devils the
lead. Both scored on a three-run home run from Tyler McIntyre.
After CCSU scored two more in the bottom of the second, the
Mount started cutting into the deficit. Mark Quaranta's RBI single
in the fourth got the Mountaineers (12-15, 6-9 NEC) on the
scoreboard. Andrew Caron had an RBI groundout and Kyle Kane added
an RBI single in the fifth to cut the gap to 7-3.
In the sixth, Josh Winter doubled and scored on a Scott single,
but the Mount was unable to complete the rally.
Kane went 2-for-4 in the second game while Dan Horner pitched
3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The series concludes tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. nine-inning
game.
