Box Score TOWSON, Md. - Towson used a pair of shutouts to sweep a
non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday. The Tigers took
the opener 12-0 in five innings and then won the nightcap, 3-0.
Chloe Mizianty (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) paced the Mount
(14-24) with two hits in the opener while Taylor Beebe (Olympia,
Wash./Capital), Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Nicole Reeder (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each had two
base hits in the nightcap.
Brianna Jones paced the Tigers (21-24) with two hits, six RBIs
and two runs scored in the opener while Andrea Stevenson added a
hit and three runs scored in the two games.
In the nightcap, Towson posted single runs in the second, third
and fourth to earn a 3-0 victory. Lindsey Kent knocked in the first
run of the game when she reached on an error in the second. Erika
Stasch added an RBI single in the third and Bina Abbott reached on
a fielder's choice in the fourth to seal the 3-0 win.
Mount St. Mary's out hit the Tigers 11-3 in the game, but could
not push a run across the plate. In the second, Reeder and Jenna
Zimmerman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) each singled to start
the stanza before a fielder's choice, fly out and ground out ended
the threat. In the seventh, pinch hitters Kristin Collins (Abion,
N.J./Gloucester Catholic) and Nicole Pagano (Berlin, N.J./St.
Joseph) started the inning with singles. After a fielder's choice,
Beebe loaded the bases with a single to center before Towson got
out of the jam with a double play.
Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) allowed three runs
(one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts in the nightcap to
take the loss.
In the opener, the Tigers posted five runs in the first and
seven runs in the second and went on for a 12-0 win. Jones fueled
the five-run first with a grandslam. Jones added a two-run single
in the seven-run second.
Amanda Hanson (La Plata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) pitched 1.2
innings before Pagano pitched 2.1 shutout innings with two
strikeouts.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday against Fairleigh
Dickinson. Game time is 1 p.m.
