Helman and Kane started the rally in the eighth with
back-to-back singles. Tony Quaranta (Virginia Beach, Va./Loyola
Blakefield [Md.]) moved both runners into scoring position with a
sacrifice bunt before Scott reached on fielder's choice to load the
bases with one out. Trailing by two runs, Flynn cut the lead in
half with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Helman. Scott then
stole second to put runners at second and third for Nott, who
smacked the ball off the chalk and down the left field line to
score two runs. Mark Quaranta followed Nott's clutch pinch-hit
double with a single to center field to bring home Nott with an
insurance run and hand the Mountaineers an 8-6 lead.
