DOVER, Del. - Chloe Mizianty (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) plated the decisive run in the 10th inning to propel Mount St. Mary's into the Demarini Capital Classic Championship Game with a 9-8 win against UMES in non-conference softball action on Sunday. Delaware State defeated the Mount 2-0 in the championship game.

Mount St. Mary's (8-9) rallied from a 6-1 deficit to send the game into extra innings against the Hawks. Each team posted a run in the eighth and the ninth to send the game to the third extra inning. Using the international tiebreaker rule, Cat Clifford (Hopewell, Junction, N.Y./John Jay) was placed on second base, moved to third on Lindsay Ruhle's (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) sacrifice bunt and touched home on Mizianty's bunt to give the Mountaineers a 9-8 edge.

The game ended in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the inning. After Charlise Castro was placed on second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, Castro tried to score on a fly out to right field, but right fielder Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) came up firing to pitcher Nicole Pagano (Berlin, N.J./St. Joseph), who got the ball to catcher Nicole Reeder (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) in time to tag Castro out for the final out of the game.

Mizianty finished the game with three RBIs while Beth Everist (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) posted five hits and two RBIs. Zingle added a hit, an RBI and run scored and Clifford scored twice in the win.

UMES jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first two innings. The Hawks posted five runs in the first. Carmen Gurrola started the scoring with an RBI single before Jasmine James plated a run with a single, Ashley Johnson brought home two runs with a single and Lauren Robertson capped the five-run rally with a run-scoring single.

The Mount answered with a run in the top of the second when Jenna Zimmerman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) singled and came around to score on an error to cut the margin to 5-1.

The Hawks responded right back with a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI triple by Castro to restore a five-run margin.

The Mountaineers then scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to tie the game at 6. Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) started the rally in the fifth with a single down the left field line and touched home on Zingle's RBI double down the line before Everist plated Zingle with a double to right center to trim the margin to 6-3.

Mount St. Mary's the registered three runs in the sixth to square the game at 6. Ruhle plated a run on an infield single and Alexa Tuck (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) also scored on the play thanks to an error. Ruhle tied the game when she touched home when Mizianty reached on a fielder's choice to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Clifford was placed on second, moved to third on Ruhle's sacrifice bunt and gave the Mount a 7-6 edge on Mizianty's RBI ground out. UMES answered with a Robertson RBI infield single to send the game to the ninth.

Mount St. Mary's retook the margin in the ninth. Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) was placed on second and moved to third on Leddy's sacrifice bunt before Zingle walked to load the bases. Everist plated Beebe with her second double of the afternoon. The Mount had a chance to add to its lead, but a pair of fly outs to right ended the threat. The Hawks once again tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Gurrola RBI ground out, but Mount St. Mary's took the upper hand for the third time in extra innings in the 10th and used a huge defensive play to hold UMES off the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.

Amanda Hanson (La Plata, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) started and pitched the first two innings. Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts over the next six innings before Pagano allowed one unearned run with one strikeout in the final two innings to earn the win.

With the win, it propelled the Mount into the championship game against the Hornets. Delaware State posted a run in the first and a run in the fourth to earn a 2-0 victory to claim the title.

Zimmerman paced the Mountaineer hitters with two hits while Pagano allowed two runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts in the loss.

Jordan Reid doubled down the left field line and scored the first run of the game for Delaware State when she stole home in the first inning. Stephanie Martello sealed the win with an RBI double in the fourth.

Mount St. Mary's had a couple chances to get on the scoreboard, but could not convert. Mizianty singled to left center with one out in the third, but a pair of popup outs ended the threat. In the fifth, Zimmerman doubled to center to start the stanza and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt before two popup outs got the Hornets out of the jam again. Leddy doubled to right center with one out in the sixth, but two ground outs ended the threat. Zimmerman singled with one out in the seventh only to see a double play end the game.
