Women's Basketball Hosts Monmouth On Monday Night At Knott Arena

opening tip... Monday's game between Mount St. Mary's and Monmouth marks the 45th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1977-78 season.
• The Mount leads the series 28-16 despite the Hawks taking the last four meetings in the matchup, including a 67-51 decision on Feb. 11, 2010 in the only tilt between the two teams last season.
• Mount St. Mary's is 13-7 at Knott Arena against Monmouth, but the Hawks have won the last three matchups in Emmitsburg.
• The Mount's last win in the series was a 78-72 decision on Feb. 9, 2008.
• Monmouth is the Mount's oldest rival in the Northeast Conference with the first meeting between the two programs taking place on Jan. 30, 1978. Quinnipiac (1986-87) and Wagner (1986-87) are the only other team's the Mount played prior to switching to Division I.

about the hawks... Monmouth comes into the contest 15-7 overall and 7-4 in Northeast Conference play after falling 67-50 to Wagner on Saturday.
• Sophomore F Abby Martin paced the Hawks with 12 points against the Seahawks. Martin was the squad's top scorer with 15 points in a 75-68 win against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 17. The sophomore is averaging 8.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Erin Rooney added 11 points against Wagner. The sophomore paced the team with 15 points in a 64-44 win against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 31. Rooney ranks second on the team with 9.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Alyssa Womack is squad's leading scorer with 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The sophomore has been Monmouth's top scorer in 10 games this season, including registering 16 points in a 74-52 win against Long Island on Jan. 29.

last time we met... Monmouth defeated Mount St. Mary's 67-51 on Feb. 11, 2010. Sydney Henderson paced the Mount with 15 points while Mary Dunn chipped in 11 points. Alysha Womack fueled the Hawks with 21 points. Erin Rooney added 13 points, Alexis Canady posted 12 points and Chanel Gomez tallied 10 points and 12 rebounds.

last time out... Freshman Ashley Christie scored a career-high 21 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.

quick hits on the fairleigh dickinson game... Senior Mary Dunn keyed a 17-2 run with 11 points to break a 58-all deadlock midway through the second half. The senior went converted eight-consecutive free throws and then added a traditional 3-point play in the run.
• Dunn finished the game with 16 points thanks to a career best 12-for-13 shooting performance at the free throw line and also hauled in nine rebounds. The senior moved into a tie with former teammate Tiffany Green (2005-08) for the all-time lead in career starts with 110 and will establish a new mark if she starts against Monmouth on Monday. Dunn also became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,100 career points in her career and now stands at 1,101, needing 11 points to move up spot in the rankings. She can also jump into fifth place for career rebounds with nine boards with 798 caroms. Dunn has posted double figures in 10 of the 12 league games and ranks fifth in the circuit with 14.8 points per game in league games.
• Freshman Ashley Christie notched a career-high 21 points against the Knights. It was the freshman's fourth-straight Saturday game in double figures. The freshman is averaging 18.3 points per game in her last four Saturday tilts and 12.4 points per game in 10 games on the weekend. She is averaging 5.3 points per game in her last four Monday games and 7.6 points per game in 12 games during the week this season. Christie has registered seven of her 11 double-digit games on the weekend. The Mount is 3-1 when the freshman is the team's leading scorer.
• Sophomore Selina Mann added 14 points and six assists. Mann is averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game in her last two games. The sophomore leads the league with 2.91 steals per game and ranks second with 4.50 assists per game.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks posted 12 points and seven rebounds in her first start of the season. The senior nearly matched her season total for points in the contest after coming into the game with 13 points for 2010-11. It was the senior's first 10-point performance since Feb. 25, 2010 against Saint Francis (Pa.).
• Mount St. Mary's converted 30 of 42 free throws in the game compared to the Knights 9 of 12 from the line. The Mount is the conference's top free throw percentage team with 71.3 percent. Dunn made 12 free throws to become the third player this season to hit double digit charity tosses.
• Mount St. Mary's posted 80 points in a contest for the first time since defeating Quinnipiac 86-57 on Jan. 30, 2010. It was the squad's third 80-point game under head coach Bryan Whitten.

tough league schedule... The Mount has started the Northeast Conference schedule 2-9 for the first time in program history.
• The league has seven of the 12 teams with a winning record. The Mount has faced every team in the league except for Monmouth and Wagner. The Hawks and the Seahawks will be the Mountaineers' next two opponents.
• Three of the next five games will be against teams with a losing record.
• Four of the final seven games will be against teams in the top six of the conference, including three of the top four teams in the league.
• With seven games left, Mount St. Mary's is currently two games behind Fairleigh Dickinson for the final playoff spot.

a different kind of year in 2010-11... In head coach Bryan Whitten's first three years success came from its defense.
• This season has been a different story as the Mount has allowed 60 points in 16 of its 22 games and the opponent is averaging 67.2 points per game.
• Last season, the Mount allowed 60 points or more 11 times. The Mountaineers also ranked second in scoring defense (58.7 ppg.) in the Northeast Conference and 37th in Division I.
• Offensively, Mount St. Mary's has scored 60 points 10 times this season, including four 70-point performances and one 80-point game. The Mount is 4-1 when it scores 70 points, but just 5-5 when reaching 60 points this season.
• The squad has scored over 60 points eight times in its last 12 games, including all five contests over 70 points.
• Last season, Mount St. Mary's reached 60 points only five times and over 63 points only three times.
• Under Whitten, the Mount is 23-16 when it scores 60 points in a game in his four seasons.

next on tap... Mount St. Mary's starts the NEC's Rivalry Week at Wagner on Saturday.
• The Mount will return to Knott Arena on Valentine's Day to start a three-game homestand. It will be the final three home games of the year before the Mountaineers end the season with two games in Western Pennsylvania.

in the last five... The Mount is 1-4 in its last five games and is averaging 62.8 points per game.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in the last five games. The senior has registered five double-figure performances in that stretch, including 12 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 22, 11 points against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24, 20 points against Bryant on Jan. 29, 19 points at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31 and 16 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 12.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in her last five games. The freshman has recorded double figures in her last three Saturday games with 15 points against the Bobcats, 18 points against the Bulldogs and a career-high 21 points against the Knights.
• Sophomore Selina Mann is averaging 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.0 steals per game in that stretch. The sophomore notched 14 points and a program-record 10 steals against the Pioneers on Jan. 24, 13 points and eight rebounds against the Blue Devils and 14 points against the Knights.

at the knott... Mount St. Mary's is 2-7 at Knott Arena this season and is averaging 54.8 points per game in Emmitsburg. The squad ended a six-game home losing streak with an 83-76 win against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The senior has posted double figures in five-straight games and in seven of the nine games at Knott Arena. Dunn tallied her only two double-doubles of the year at home after tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds against UMES on Nov. 20 and 18 points and 12 rebounds against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10. She also notched one of her 20-point performances at home after scoring 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8.
• Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 10.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game at home this season. Christie has four 10-point performances at Knott Arena, including 14 points against UMES, 15 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 22 and a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has four 10-point performances at home this season. Freshman Kayla Grossett has three double-digit games at Knott Arena while senior Leah Westbrooks, junior Sandra Andresson and freshman Kelly Guerriero each have one 10-point performance.

stat stuffer... Sophomore Selina Mann has done it all on the court this season whether its scoring, rebounding, assisting or thievery.
• Mann has scored double figures in nine games this season, all in the last 16 games. The sophomore notched a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and scored the game-winning basket against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• The sophomore has grabbed at least five rebounds five times this season, including a season-high eight caroms at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31. The 5-4 guard has also recorded 10-board game on her career resume.
• Mann has dished out four assists 16 times this season, including a career-high eight helpers against the Dons and seven dimes at Navy on Dec. 8, at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15 and at Bryant on Jan. 29. She ranks second in the league with 4.50 assists per game.
• The sophomore has recorded two steals in 18 of the 22 games and four steals six times, including a program-record 10 thefts against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24. Mann currently leads the conference with 2.91 steals per game.

queen of thievery... Sophomore Selina Mann tied the single-game program record for steals in a game with 10 against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24.
• The sophomore became the third player in program history and the second player in Mount Division I history to record 10 steals in a game. She joins Karla Green (at Richmond, Feb. 20, 1983) and Kim Rhock (St. Francis (N.Y.), Feb. 13, 1990) as the only players in program history to reach double-digit thefts.
• Mann becomes the second player to record a double-double with points and steals, although Rhock finished her game against the Terriers with a triple-double (19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals).

wins vs. losses... Mount St. Mary's is averaging 75.6 points per game in its five wins compared to 52.1 points per game in the 17 loses. The squad is 4-5 when it reaches 60 points.
• The Mountaineers are shooting 44.8 percent when it wins, but just 33.2 percent in a loss.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in every game except Quinnipiac (Jan. 4) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15), but are only -3.2 on boards in wins and -10.8 in losses.
• Mount St. Mary's is 3-1 when it leads at halftime and 2-15 when the opponents hold the edge and 0-1 when the game is tied at the break.

board issues... Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 19 of its 22 games and only held a one-board edge against Quinnipiac on Jan. 4 and against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. The opponents have held a 10-rebound edge in 10 games this season, but the Mount has been trailed by 10 rebounds or less in 11 games, including 10 of the last 14 games.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 74 games under head coach Bryan Whitten, including 34 games with double-digit rebound deficits. The squad is 3-31 when the opponent holds a 10-board advantage.
• Last season, the Mount won the rebound battle in 50 percent of its games and had seven games when the opponent had a 10-carom margin.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 243 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (259) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (264).
• The Mount is 243-139 in Northeast Conference play, including 136-58 at Knott Arena and 107-81 on the road.

that was a career day... Freshman Ashley Christie posted a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Freshman Kelly Guerriero had a career-best 13 points against Bryant on Jan. 29.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman recorded a career-high 14 points against Long Island on Jan. 17.
• Fellow freshman Kayla Grossett also had a career day against the Terriers with 16 points.
• Senior Mary Dunn notched a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann scored a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29. Fellow sophomore Tara Lonergan also established a career-best against the Spartans with 13 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson had a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.

a new year, a new start... In February, the Mount is 212-102 and 114-65 since switching to Division I.
• The Mountaineers are 69-25 at home and 42-40 on the road since switching to Division I.
• Once the New Year hits, the Mount has posted a 470-222 overall mark and a 269-151 since turning Division I in the last three months of the season.
• The Mount is 10-14 under head coach Bryan Whitten in the month.

hearing your name called at the start... Head coach Bryan Whitten has only had 18 players start in his four-year tenure at the Mount.
• The Mount has used four different starting lineups this season.
• Senior Mary Dunn has started 110-straight games in her career to tie the all-time start record at the Mount.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has started 70 of her 87 games played, including her first start of the year against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Junior Sandra Andresson has started 68 of the 79 games she has played.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson started 15 of the 26 games she has played, including 10 straight.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has started the first 22 games of her collegiate career.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman started the first nine games of the season before fellow freshman Kayla Grossett started games against Sacred Heart and San Jose State before sophomore Tara Lonergan made her first career start against San Francisco and has started 10 of the last 11 games.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game nine times this season. The Mount is 1-8 in those games and picked its first win after starting the game with a 3-pointer against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8), Loyola (Dec. 11), Quinnipiac (Jan. 4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Jan. 10) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four times, senior Mary Dunn has three opening treys while junior Sandra Andresson and freshman Ashley Christie each have one.
• The Mountaineers are 4-8 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

let's play to 60 points... Mount St. Mary's is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when it scores 60 points in a game or holds the opponent under that total.
• The Mount is 22-16 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 14-53 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 27-24 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 9-49 when the opponent reaches 60 points.

three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 28-14 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-3 when the game is tied, but just 7-56 when trailing at the break.
• The squad is 16-15 when it holds a rebounding edge in a game, but just 19-54 when the opponent has the advantage and 2-4 when the two teams have equal boards.
• Mount St. Mary's is 27-24 when it holds opponents under 60 points.

hitting 20 points in a game... Senior Mary Dunn, sophomore Selina Mann and freshman Ashley Christie are the only three players on the roster that has scored 20 points in a game in their career.
• Dunn posted a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31, had 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8 and scored 20 points against Bryant on Jan. 29. The senior also accomplished the feat twice last season when she recorded 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• Mann became the first player this season to turn the trick when she posted a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• Christie became the third player this season to reach 20 points after coming up short by one or two points twice this season. The freshman posted a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• The Mount has registered 21 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 12-9 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

notes on dunn's 1,000 point game... Senior Mary Dunn became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points with her layup at 17:05 in the second half against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10.
• Dunn is the first player to reach the milestone since current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier joined the club against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 7, 2009.
• Dunn is the 15th player to reach 1,000 points at home. The Mount is 11-3 in those games.
• The senior is the third 1,000-point scorer head coach Bryan Whitten has coached at the Mount, joining Gauthier and Tiffany Green (2007-08).
• Dunn is the eighth player in program history to have 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 21st place in program history with 1,101 career points. Next on the list is Deanna Butters (1,112, 1997-01).
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into sixth place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 789 caroms after grabbing five boards against Bryant on Jan. 29. The senior can move into fifth place and ahead of Kia Williams (798, 1997-01) with 10 rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 15 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with two double-doubles.
• The senior is also tied for the program record for career starts with former teammate Tiffany Green (110, 2004-08) and will become the all-time leader by herself if she starts against Monmouth on Feb. 7.

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 553 career points to rank 48th in program history and can move into 47th place with 35 points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 57th place in program history with 461 points and can move into 56th place with 14 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 287 points for her career to rank 70th in team history and can move into 69th place with three points, 68th place with 18 points and 67th place with 21 points.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has 215 points in her first season to rank 79th in program history. The freshman can move into 78th place six points and 76th place with 24 points.
• Sophomore Tara Lonergan became the seventh player on the team to join the Top-100 in scoring and stands at 138 career points. The sophomore can move into 98th place with two points, 97th place with six points, 96th place with seven points, 95th place with nine points and 93rd place with 13 points.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett has 119 points for her career and can be the eighth member of the 2010-11 team in the Top-100 with 21 points.

1,000 games in program history... Mount St. Mary's played its 1,000th game in program history on Jan. 8 against Robert Morris.
• The Mount is 634-374 in program history.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

in the non-conference slate... Mount St. Mary's is 74-115 in non-conference games since joining the Northeast Conference in 1989-90.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 205-102 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 136-59 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.
• Mount St. Mary's won tournaments in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95, including earning the league's first two NCAA Division I bids.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 37-73 overall under Whitten.
• Whitten has defeated all 11 other teams in the NEC.
• The Mount is 16-34 overall at Knott Arena and 11-22 in NEC play under Whitten.
• The Mountaineers fair better on the road with a 21-39 overall mark away from Emmitsburg and 11-19 in league play.
• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.
• Whitten earned his 250th win of his career against Quinnipiac on Jan. 30, 2010.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).
