Women's Basketball Hosts Fairleigh Dickinson On Saturday In Homecoming Game

opening tip... Saturday's game between Mount St. Mary's and Fairleigh Dickinson marks the 42nd meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1989-90 season.
• The Mount leads the series 22-19, but the Knights have won the last two meetings (both games were at the Rothman Center) and three of the last four tilts.
• Fairleigh Dickinson downed the Mountaineers 55-44 in Teaneck on Feb. 13, 2010 in the only meeting last season while the Mount's last win in the series was a 62-34 decision at Knott Arena on Jan. 12, 2009.
• Mount St. Mary's holds a 14-7 advantage at home against the Knights, including victories in five of the last six contests in Emmitsburg.

about the knights... Fairleigh Dickinson comes into the contest 11-10 overall and 4-6 in Northeast Conference play after falling 68-49 against Long Island on Monday.
• Junior G Jasmyra Saunders paced the Knights with 13 points against the Blackbirds. Saunders is averaging 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
• Freshman G Danielle Pankey, the current NEC Rookie of the Week, added 10 points against Long Island. The freshman paced the team with 16 points in a 69-49 win against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 29. Pankey is third with 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
• Junior G Mariyah Laury, the squad's leading scorer with 15.0 points per game, registered 15 points in the win against the Terriers. The junior scored 26 points in a 62-58 loss against Bryant on Jan. 24. Laury has led the team in points in 13 tilts this season.
• Senior G Alyssa Mayrose ranks second on the team with 9.6 points per game. Mayrose recorded 20 points in a 67-53 loss against Robert Morris on Jan. 17.

last time we met... Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Mount St. Mary's 55-44 on Feb. 13, 2010. Sydney Henderson paced the Mount with 11 points while Leah Westbrooks grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss. Mariyah Laury fueled the Knights with 16 points. Alanna Driscoll-Sbar added 11 points and Alyssa Mayrose chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

last time out... Central Connecticut State defeated Mount St. Mary's 57-49 on Monday. Senior Mary Dunn paced the Mount with 19 points.

quick hits on the central connecticut state game... Mount St. Mary's held a nine-point advantage in the first before the two teams went into the locker room deadlocked at 24. The Blue Devils closed the game on a 14-4 run to earn the victory.
• Senior Mary Dunn posted 19 points and six rebounds on Monday. The senior has recorded double figures in nine of the 10 conference games this season and ranks fourth with 14.7 points per game in NEC games. The senior moved into 21st place in program history with 1,085 career points and can move into 20th place with 27 points. Dunn will tie Tiffany Green's program record for career starts with 109 if she starts against Fairleigh Dickinson. She has scored double figures in nine of her last 10 games and is averaging 16.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in that stretch.
• Sophomore Selina Mann stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a career-high three blocks against the Blue Devils. Mann leads the NEC with 2.86 steals per game and stands in 33rd place in Division I in the category. The sophomore is averaging 10.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 5.0 steals per game in her last three games.
• Freshman Rachel Mathews came off the bench to score eight points. It was the freshman's best performance since posting a career-high nine points and five rebounds against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. Mathews has scored 22 of her 26 points this season on the road.

fairleigh dickinson game has huge postseason implications... Even with eight games left in the conference schedule, Saturday's game against Fairleigh Dickinson is a must win for Mount St. Mary's.
• Fairleigh Dickinson is currently three games ahead of Mount St. Mary's with a 4-6 mark in the league so a Mount win will cut the margin to two games. The Mountaineers would hold the tiebreaker so they could end in a tie with the Knights and finish ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson for postseason rankings.
• Since this is the only meeting with the Knights in 2010-11, a loss to the Teaneck program will put the Mount four games behind the final playoff spot. Mount St. Mary's would actually have to do five games better than Fairleigh Dickinson in the final seven games to take the slot away from Fairleigh Dickinson because the Knights would own the tiebreaker.

tough start to the league schedule... The Mount has started the Northeast Conference schedule 1-9 for the first time in program history.
• The squad has battled five of the Top-6 teams in its first nine games. St. Francis (N.Y.) and Bryant are the only team the Mountaineers have played that has a losing overall and conference mark.
• Four of the next five games are scheduled against teams with losing record. Only Monmouth (14-6, 6-3 NEC) has a winning record in the Mount's next five games.

mount hall of fame... Former standout Megan Gardiner will be the 13th women's basketball player inducted into the Mount Hall of Fame at a luncheon on Saturday.
• Gardiner ranks third in program history with 1,775 career points from 1995-00.
• The Wilmington, Del., native was a three-time All-NEC first-team selection and the 1998-99 NEC Player of the Year.

a different kind of year in 2010-11... In head coach Bryan Whitten's first three years success came from its defense.
• This season has been a different story as the Mount has allowed 60 points in 15 of its 21 games and the opponent is averaging 66.8 points per game.
• Last season, the Mount allowed 60 points or more 11 times. The Mountaineers also ranked second in scoring defense (58.7 ppg.) in the Northeast Conference and 37th in Division I.
• Offensively, Mount St. Mary's has scored 60 points nine times this season, including four 70-point performances. The Mount is 3-1 when it scores 70 points, but just 4-5 when reaching 60 points this season.
• The squad has scored over 60 points seven times in its last 11 games, including all four 70-point games.
• Last season, Mount St. Mary's reached 60 points only five times and over 63 points only three times.
• Under Whitten, the Mount is 22-16 when it scores 60 points in a game in his four seasons.

in the last five... The Mount is 0-5 in its last five games and is averaging 58.2 points per game.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 15.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in the last five games. The senior has registered five double-figure performances in that stretch, 13 points against Long Island on Jan. 17, 12 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 22, 11 points against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24, 20 points against Bryant on Jan. 29 and 19 points at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann is averaging 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.6 steals per game in that stretch. The sophomore notched 14 points and a program-record 10 steals against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24 and stuffed the stat sheet in her last game.

at the knott... Mount St. Mary's is 1-7 at Knott Arena this season and is averaging 51.2 points per game in Emmitsburg. The squad has lost six-straight home games.
• Senior Mary Dunn is the only player averaging double figures at home with 12.3 points along with 5.9 rebounds per game. The senior has posted double figures in four-straight games and in six of the eight games at Knott Arena. Dunn tallied her only two double-doubles of the year at home after tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds against UMES on Nov. 20 and 18 points and 12 rebounds against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10. She also notched one of her 20-point performances at home after scoring 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has three 10-point performances at home this season. In the sophomore's last home game against Sacred Heart, she tied the program record with 10 steals and finished with her second career double-double after posting 14 points on Jan. 24.
• Freshmen Ashley Christie and Kayla Grossett also have three double-digit games at Knott Arena while junior Sandra Andresson and freshman Kelly Guerriero each have one 10-point performance.

stat stuffer... Sophomore Selina Mann has done it all on the court this season whether its scoring, rebounding, assisting or thievery.
• Mann has scored double figures in eight games this season, including eight of the last 15 games. The sophomore notched a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and scored the game-winning basket against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• The sophomore has grabbed at least five rebounds five times this season, including a season-high eight caroms at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31. The 5-4 guard has also recorded 10-board game on her career resume.
• Mann has dished out four assists 15 times this season, including a career-high eight helpers against the Dons and seven dimes at Navy on Dec. 8, at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15 and at Bryant on Jan. 29. She ranks third in the league with 4.45 assists per game.
• The sophomore has recorded two steals in 17 of the 21 games and four steals five times, including a program-record 10 thefts against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24. Mann currently leads the conference with 2.85 steals per game.

queen of thievery... Sophomore Selina Mann tied the single-game program record for steals in a game with 10 against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24.
• The sophomore became the third player in program history and the second player in Mount Division I history to record 10 steals in a game. She joins Karla Green (at Richmond, Feb. 20, 1983) and Kim Rhock (St. Francis (N.Y.), Feb. 13, 1990) as the only players in program history to reach double-digit thefts.
• Mann becomes the second player to record a double-double with points and steals, although Rhock finished her game against the Terriers with a triple-double (19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals).

wins vs. losses... Mount St. Mary's is averaging 73.8 points per game in its four wins compared to 52.1 points per game in the 17 loses. The squad is 4-5 when it reaches 60 points.
• The Mountaineers are shooting 44.1 percent when it wins, but just 33.2 percent in a loss.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in every game except Quinnipiac (Jan. 4) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15), but are only -3.7 on boards in wins and -10.8 in losses.
• Mount St. Mary's is 3-1 when it leads at halftime and 1-15 when the opponents hold the edge and 0-1 when the game is tied at the break.

board issues... Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 18 of its 21 games and only held a one-board edge against Quinnipiac on Jan. 4 and against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. The opponents have held a 10-rebound edge in 10 games this season, but the Mount has been trailed by 10 rebounds or less in 10 games, including nine of the last 13 games.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 73 games under head coach Bryan Whitten, including 34 games with double-digit rebound deficits. The squad is 3-31 when the opponent holds a 10-board advantage.
• Last season, the Mount won the rebound battle in 50 percent of its games and had seven games when the opponent had a 10-carom margin.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 242 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (259) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (263).
• The Mount is 242-139 in Northeast Conference play, including 135-58 at Knott Arena and 107-81 on the road.

that was a career day... Freshman Kelly Guerriero had a career-best 13 points against Bryant on Jan. 29.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman recorded a career-high 14 points against Long Island on Jan. 17.
• Freshman Ashley Christie posted a career-high 19 points against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. Fellow freshman Kayla Grossett also had a career day against the Terriers with 16 points.
• Senior Mary Dunn notched a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann scored a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29. Fellow sophomore Tara Lonergan also established a career-best against the Spartans with 13 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson had a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.

a new year, a new start... In February, the Mount is 211-102 and 113-65 since switching to Division I.
• The Mountaineers are 68-25 at home and 42-40 on the road since switching to Division I.
• Once the New Year hits, the Mount has posted a 469-222 overall mark and a 268-151 since turning Division I in the last three months of the season.
• The Mount is 9-14 under head coach Bryan Whitten in the month.

hearing your name called at the start... Head coach Bryan Whitten has only had 18 players start in his four-year tenure at the Mount.
• The Mount has used three different starting lineups this season.
• Senior Mary Dunn has started 109-straight games in her career.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has started 69 of her 86 games played.
• Junior Sandra Andresson has started 67 of the 78 games she has played.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson started 15 of the 26 games she has played, including 10 straight.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has started the first 21 games of her collegiate career.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman started the first nine games of the season before fellow freshman Kayla Grossett started games against Sacred Heart and San Jose State before sophomore Tara Lonergan made her first career start against San Francisco and has started the last 10 games.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game nine times this season. The Mount is 1-8 in those games and picked its first win after starting the game with a 3-pointer against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8), Loyola (Dec. 11), Quinnipiac (Jan. 4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Jan. 10) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four times, senior Mary Dunn has three opening treys while junior Sandra Andresson and freshman Ashley Christie each have one.
• The Mountaineers are 3-8 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

let's play to 60 points... Mount St. Mary's is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when it scores 60 points in a game or holds the opponent under that total.
• The Mount is 21-16 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 14-53 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 27-24 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 8-49 when the opponent reaches 60 points.

three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 28-14 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-3 when the game is tied, but just 6-56 when trailing at the break.
• The squad is 16-15 when it holds a rebounding edge in a game, but just 18-54 when the opponent has the advantage and 2-4 when the two teams have equal boards.
• Mount St. Mary's is 27-24 when it holds opponents under 60 points.

hitting 20 points in a game... Senior Mary Dunn and sophomore Selina Mann are the only two players on the roster that has scored 20 points in a game in their career.
• Dunn posted a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31, had 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8 and scored 20 points against Bryant on Jan. 29. The senior also accomplished the feat twice last season when she recorded 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• Mann became the first player this season to turn the trick when she posted a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• The Mount has registered 20 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 11-9 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

notes on dunn's 1,000 point game... Senior Mary Dunn became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points with her layup at 17:05 in the second half against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10.
• Dunn is the first player to reach the milestone since current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier joined the club against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 7, 2009.
• Dunn is the 15th player to reach 1,000 points at home. The Mount is 11-3 in those games.
• The senior is the third 1,000-point scorer head coach Bryan Whitten has coached at the Mount, joining Gauthier and Tiffany Green (2007-08).
• Dunn is the eighth player in program history to have 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 21st place in program history with 1,085 career points. Next on the list is Deanna Butters (1,112, 1997-01).
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into sixth place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 780 caroms after grabbing five boards against Bryant on Jan. 29. The senior can move into fifth place and ahead of Kia Williams (798, 1997-01) with 19 rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 15 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with two double-doubles.
• The senior is also second on the Mount's games started list with 109 career starts and can tie Tiffany Green (109, 2004-08) for the all-time starts mark against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 541 career points to rank 49th in program history and can move into 48th place with six points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 57th place in program history with 452 points and can move into 56th place with 24 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 273 points for her career to rank 73rd in team history and can move into 72nd place with two points, 71st place with seven points, 70th place with nine points and 69th place with 17 points.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has 194 points in her first season to rank 81st in program history. The freshman can move into 80th place with three points and 79th place with 10 points.
• Sophomore Tara Lonergan and freshman Kayla Grossett both recently surpassed 100 points in their career. Lonergan has 136 points and Grossett has 114 points. Each player can move into 100th place in team history when she reaches 138 points.

1,000 games in program history... Mount St. Mary's played its 1,000th game in program history on Jan. 8 against Robert Morris.
• The Mount is 633-374 in program history.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

in the non-conference slate... Mount St. Mary's is 74-115 in non-conference games since joining the Northeast Conference in 1989-90.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 204-102 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 135-59 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.
• Mount St. Mary's won tournaments in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95, including earning the league's first two NCAA Division I bids.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 36-73 overall under Whitten.
• Whitten has defeated all 11 other teams in the NEC.
• The Mount is 15-34 overall at Knott Arena and 10-22 in NEC play under Whitten.
• The Mountaineers fair better on the road with a 21-39 overall mark away from Emmitsburg and 11-19 in league play.
• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.
• Whitten earned his 250th win of his career against Quinnipiac on Jan. 30, 2010.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).
