PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary)
finished sixth in the 200 fly to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's
swimming team to an 11th-place standing at the ECAC Open Swimming
& Diving Championships on Sunday.
Yam, who finished third in the 200 fly at the Northeast
Conference Swimming & Diving Championships last weekend, placed
sixth in the event on Sunday with a time of 2:06.27.
The freshman also swam the anchor leg of the 10th place 400-free
relay (3:34.48) while Courtney Griffith (Westminster,
Md./Westminster), Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) and
Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) swam the
first three legs.
New Hampshire won the three-day event with 611 points, 1.5
points ahead of Harvard (609.5) while Marist (462), Central
Connecticut State (363) and Rider (341) rounded out the Top-5 teams
in the 22-team field. The Mount finished in 11th place with a score
of 88.5.
Mount St. Mary's completed one of its best seasons in program
history. Griffith finished second in the 100 fly at the NEC
Swimming & Diving Championships to become the first swimmer in
team history to earn All-NEC honors with her second-team selection.
Griffith also finished fifth in the event at the ECAC
Championships. Yam was named to the All-NEC third team after
placing third in the 100 fly.
The squad also earned its first NEC Swimmers of the Week awards.
Griffith and Coppler shared the award for the first week of the
season and Griffith won the honor individually for the week of Nov.
9-15.
The Mount finished sixth at the NEC Swimming & Diving
Championships and shattered its point total with 253 points. The
Mountaineers went 8-5 in dual meets, including 6-1 at home this
season.
