EMMITSBURG, Md. - Ashley Christie (Miamisburg, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) and Sandra Andresson (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentes School) combined for 29 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past St. Francis (N.Y.) 66-49 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Christie led the way with 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting, 3 of 6 from behind the arc and 2 of 2 from the free throw line while also adding six assists and two steals. Andresson added 14 points to help the Mount (8-18, 5-10 NEC) to its sixth-straight win against the Terriers.

Senior Mary Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) registered eight points and 10 rebounds while Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) stuffed the stat sheet with four points, five assists and seven steals in the winning effort.

St. Francis (N.Y.) (2-24, 0-15 NEC) was led by the Lau sisters after Amber posted 16 points and Autumn added 13 points in the loss for the Terriers.

Mount St. Mary's jumped out to the advantage early in the first half and never looked back to help its postseason playoff push and remain in the hunt for the eighth and final playoff spot in the league tournament.

After the two teams traded 5-0 runs, Mount St. Mary's broke a 5-all standstill by scoring the next seven points to take the lead for good. Dunn gave the Mountaineers the lead for good on two free throws at 16:12 for a 7-5 lead. Christie then scored in the lane at 15:47 and nailed a 3-pointer at 15:02 for a 12-5 edge.

The Terriers rallied back to trim the margin to 14-11 and 16-13 before Mount St. Mary's went on a 16-4 run to take a 32-17 advantage. Amber Lau cut the margin to 16-13 on a jumper at 9:46. Christie then started the Mount's run with a 3-pointer at 8:18 before Tara Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored in the paint 13 seconds later for a 21-13 advantage.

After Ashley Wilcots and Stefanie Bingham recorded back-to-back baskets for St. Francis (N.Y.) to make it a four-point game with 7:09 on the clock, the Mountaineers scored the next 11 points. Lonergan started the surge with a jumper at 6:39 before Jessie Kaufman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) hit a 3-ball at 6:05 and then the freshman followed with a jumper at 5:13. Andresson then hit a jumper at 4:27 and Mann converted two free throws at 2:52 for a 32-17 lead. Kim Snauwaert and Andresson traded treys in the final 46 seconds to maintain the Mountaineers 15-point lead at halftime, 35-20.

In the second half, the Mount grabbed a 20-point advantage, but fueled by 11 points by Autumn Lau the Terriers went on a 16-5 run to cut the score to 56-47 with 3:51 on the clock. Rachel Mathews (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and Grabbe then traded points before Mount St. Mary's scored 10 of the final points of the afternoon to secure the victory.

Andresson halted the St. Francis (N.Y.) spurt, but the biggest excitement in the game came when Kristin Scheitrum (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) entered the game with 1:05 left and scored a layup 10 seconds later for her first points since scoring against Virginia on Dec. 21, 2008. Scheitrum had a career-ending injury during the 2008-09 season, but got in the game for Senior Day on Saturday.

Scheitrum, Dunn and fellow senior Leah Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland/Holy Faith Secondary School) were honored prior to the start of the game. Dunn got all of her points at the foul line and moved into 18 place in program history with 1,134 points, passing former teammate and current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier (1,128, 2005-09). The senior also moved into seventh place for games played with 114. Scheitrum finished the game with two points and Westbrooks posted four points and five rebounds.

Kaufman added eight points off the bench for the Mountaineers.

The Mount also participated in Pink Zone on Saturday to help awareness for breast cancer. Fans made donations to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the first 200 fans received a mini Pink Zone basketball.

Mount St. Mary's plays its final home game of the 2010-11 season on Monday against Long Island. Game time is 7 p.m.
