Women's Basketball Welcomes St. Francis (N.Y.) For WBCA's Pink Zone Game On Saturday

opening tip...

Saturday's game between Mount St, Mary's and St. Francis (N.Y.) marks the 44th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1989-90 season.
• The Mountaineers lead the series 41-2 and have taken 19 of the 20 matchups in Emmitsburg.
• The Mount has won the last five meetings after sweeping the season series in each of the last two seasons and winning in Brooklyn 79-39 on Jan. 15.
• The Terriers ended a 36-game losing streak against the Mount by sweeping the season series in 2007-08 for its only two wins in the series.

the pink zone... Mount St. Mary's will be participating in the nation-wide awareness for breast cancer during its game against St. Francis (N.Y.).
• Fans who wear pink and donate $2 will be admitted to the game for free and the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free mini Pink Zone basketball. All proceeds go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
• This will be the Mount's fourth year of participation in the event and has raised $1,129.25 for the cause in its first three years.

about the terriers... St. Francis (N.Y.) comes into the contest 2-23 overall and 0-14 in Northeast Conference play after falling 64-41 to Long Island on Monday.
• Junior F Ashley Wilcots paced the Terriers with 12 points against the Blackbirds. Wilcots is averaging 5.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore F Autumn Lau leads the team with 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Lau has been the team's leading scorer 12 times this season, including 16 points in a 56-52 loss to Quinnipiac on Feb. 7.
• Sophomore G Amber Lau ranks second on the team with 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore fueled the team with 13 points in a 70-58 loss against Long Island on Saturday.

last time we met... Ashley Christie scored 19 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past St. Francis (N.Y.) 79-39 on Saturday. Kayla Grossett had a career with 16 points. Rachel Mathews added a career-high nine points off the bench. Autumn Lau posted 21 of the Terriers 39 points.

out of africa... Senior Leah Westbrooks has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Shooting Touch, Inc. for a 10-month Sabbatical Program.
• Westbrooks will be working in South Africa and Western Zimbabwe during her 10-months.

last time out... Freshmen Jessie Kaufman and Ashley Christie combined for 25 points to lift Mount St. Mary's past Wagner 59-41 on Monday.

quick hits on the wagner game... For the first time this season Mount St. Mary's took the lead and never trailed in the contest to end a three-game losing streak against Wagner.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman finished the game one point off a career high with 13 points against the Seahawks. It was the freshman's second career 10-point performance of her career after notching 14 points against Long Island on Jan. 17. Kaufman has made 22 of her 49 3-point attempts and has nailed a trey in 13 of the 25 games this season.
• Fellow freshman Ashley Christie added 12 points on Monday. Christie notched back-to-back 10-point performances for the second time this season. The freshman ranks second on the team with 12 double-digit contests this season. She is averaging 11.2 points per game in her last 10 games with seven double-digit performances including five games with 15 points or more.
• Senior Mary Dunn continues to be successful in league games, registering 10 points and six rebounds. It was the senior's 12th double-digit performance in 14 league games this season and she ranks seventh with 17.4 points per game in NEC play. The senior needs three points to pass former teammate and current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier (1,128, 2005-09) for 18th place in program history for points. She became the all-time leader in games started against Monmouth on Feb. 7 and now is moving up the Top-10 in career games played, sitting in eighth place with 113 and will move up to the seventh spot with her next appearance.
• Sophomore Selina Mann posted seven assists, five steals and five points against Wagner. Mann has dished out 112 assists this season, the most since Amy Langville handed out 139 in 1996-97. The sophomore also has the most steals since Adrienne Harris registered 77 steals in 2002-03 with 74 in 2010-11.
• The Mount has won three of its last four for the first time this season and for the fifth time under head coach Bryan Whitten.
• The Mount has won three-straight home games for the second time under Whitten and the first since the 2008-09 season. The squad looks to win four-straight at home for the first time since 2007-08.

the state of the mount... With the win against Wagner, the Mountaineers remain in a good standing for its 21st postseason berth in 22 years.
• Six of the eight postseason spots have been clinched with Central Connecticut State (8-6), Fairleigh Dickinson (5-9), the Mount (4-10), Wagner (4-10) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (0-13) battling for the final two berths. The Blue Devils will clinch a spot with a win or losses by the Mountaineers and Seahawks so and the Terriers will be eliminated with its next loss so it could end up being a three-team race for the final position.
• The Mount needs at least one win in its final four to have a shot the NEC Tournament.
• Mount St. Mary's holds the tiebreaker with the Knights and a three-way tiebreaker with Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner.
• The Seahawks currently hold the tiebreaker with the Mountaineers in a head-to-head. The two teams split the regular season with each team winning on its home floor so the next tiebreaker is winning percentage against teams starting with the top of the standings. Wagner and the Mount both beat Monmouth, but the Seahawks have a win against Sacred Heart to give them the edge at the moment. The Mount can claim the head-to-head tiebreaker against Wagner with a win against a team that finishes higher than the Pioneers in the standings.

i'm a weekend kind of girl... Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 12.4 points per game on the weekend this season.
• The freshman has posted double figures in her last five Saturday games and is averaging 17.0 points per game in that stretch.
• Christie is averaging 15.6 points per game in five Saturday league games.
• The freshman has posted seven of her 12 double-digit performances on the weekend. Those seven games also represent her Top-7 performances this season.

a different kind of year in 2010-11... In head coach Bryan Whitten's first three years success came from its defense.
• This season has been a different story as the Mount has allowed 60 points in 17 of its 25 games and the opponent is averaging 65.2 points per game.
• Last season, the Mount allowed 60 points or more 11 times. The Mountaineers also ranked second in scoring defense (58.7 ppg.) in the Northeast Conference and 37th in Division I.
• Offensively, Mount St. Mary's has scored 60 points 10 times this season, including four 70-point performances and one 80-point game. The Mount is 4-1 when it scores 70 points, but just 5-5 when reaching 60 points this season.
• The squad has scored over 60 points eight times in its last 15 games, including all five contests over 70 points.
• Last season, Mount St. Mary's reached 60 points only five times and over 63 points only three times.
• Under Whitten, the Mount is 23-16 when it scores 60 points in a game in his four seasons.

next on tap... Mount St. Mary's concludes its home schedule against Long Island on Monday.
• The Mount will end the regular season with two games in Western Pennsylvania against Robert Morris (Feb. 26) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (Feb. 28).

in the last five... The Mount is 3-2 in its last five games and is averaging 59.2 points per game.
• The Mountaineers have three players averaging double figures in that stretch. Senior Mary Dunn leads the way with 12.0 points per game while freshman Ashley Christie also is averaging double figures with 10.4 points game and junior Sandra Andresson is averaging 10.2 points per game in that stretch.
• Dunn has posted double figures in four of her last five games including 19 points at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31.
• Christie scored a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.

at the knott... Mount St. Mary's is 4-7 at home this season and is averaging 54.8 points per game at Knott Arena. The Mount has won three straight in Emmitsburg.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 11.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at Knott Arena. The senior has scored double figures eight times at home, including six of the last seven games at Knott Arena. Dunn has posted her only two double-doubles of the year in Emmitsburg. Dunn is averaging 13.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in her last six home games.
• Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 10.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The freshman notched a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5 and has registered four 10-point games in her last six home contests.
• Sophomore Selina Mann and freshman Kayla Grossett each have three 10-point games at home while junior Sandra Andresson has two and senior Leah Westbrooks, sophomore Tara Lonergan, freshman Kelly Guerriero and freshman Jessie Kaufman each have one double-digit home performance this season.

stat stuffer... Sophomore Selina Mann has done it all on the court this season whether its scoring, rebounding, assisting or thievery.
• Mann has scored double figures in 10 games this season, all in the last 18 games. The sophomore notched a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and scored the game-winning basket against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• The sophomore has grabbed at least five rebounds six times this season, including a season-high eight caroms at Central Connecticut State on Jan. 31. The 5-4 guard has also recorded 10-board game on her career resume.
• Mann has dished out four assists 18 times this season, including a career-high eight helpers against the Dons and seven dimes at Navy on Dec. 8, at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15 and at Bryant on Jan. 29. She ranks second in the league with 4.38 assists per game.
• The sophomore has recorded two steals in 21 of the 25 games and four steals seven times, including a program-record 10 thefts against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24. Mann currently leads the conference with 2.88 steals per game.

queen of thievery... Sophomore Selina Mann tied the single-game program record for steals in a game with 10 against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24.
• The sophomore became the third player in program history and the second player in Mount Division I history to record 10 steals in a game. She joins Karla Green (at Richmond, Feb. 20, 1983) and Kim Rhock (St. Francis (N.Y.), Feb. 13, 1990) as the only players in program history to reach double-digit thefts.
• Mann becomes the second player to record a double-double with points and steals, although Rhock finished her game against the Terriers with a triple-double (19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals).

wins vs. losses... Mount St. Mary's is averaging 69.7 points per game in its seven wins compared to 52.2 points per game in the 18 loses. The squad is 4-5 when it reaches 60 points.
• The Mountaineers are shooting 42.5 percent when it wins, but just 33.4 percent in a loss.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in every game except Quinnipiac (Jan. 4), St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15), Monmouth (Feb. 7) and Wagner (Feb. 12), but are only -2.9 on boards in wins and -10.1 in losses.
• Mount St. Mary's is 5-1 when it leads at halftime and 2-16 when the opponents hold the edge and 0-1 when the game is tied at the break.

board issues... Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 20 of its 25 games this season. All five games have come in league play and in the last 13games. The opponents have held a 10-rebound edge in 10 games this season, but the Mount has been trailed by 10 rebounds or less in 12 games, including 10 of the last 17 games.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in 75 games under head coach Bryan Whitten, including 34 games with double-digit rebound deficits. The squad is 3-31 when the opponent holds a 10-board advantage.
• Last season, the Mount won the rebound battle in 50 percent of its games and had seven games when the opponent had a 10-carom margin.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 245 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (261) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (267).
• The Mount is 245-140 in Northeast Conference play, including 138-58 at Knott Arena and 107-82 on the road.

that was a career day... Junior Sandra Andresson posted a career-high 25 points against Monmouth on Feb. 7.
• Freshman Ashley Christie posted a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Freshman Kelly Guerriero had a career-best 13 points against Bryant on Jan. 29.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman recorded a career-high 14 points against Long Island on Jan. 17.
• Fellow freshman Kayla Grossett also had a career day against the Terriers with 16 points.
• Senior Mary Dunn notched a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann scored a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29. Fellow sophomore Tara Lonergan also established a career-best against the Spartans with 13 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson had a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.

a new year, a new start... In February, the Mount is 214-103 and 116-66 since switching to Division I.
• The Mountaineers are 71-25 at home and 42-41 on the road since switching to Division I.
• Once the New Year hits, the Mount has posted a 472-223 overall mark and a 271-152 since turning Division I in the last three months of the season.
• The Mount is 12-15 under head coach Bryan Whitten in the month.

hearing your name called at the start... Head coach Bryan Whitten has only had 18 players start in his four-year tenure at the Mount.
• The Mount has used four different starting lineups this season.
• Senior Mary Dunn has started 113-straight games in her career to establish the all-time start record at the Mount.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has started 73 of her 90 games played, including starts in the last three games.
• Junior Sandra Andresson has started 71 of the 82 games she has played.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson started 15 of the 26 games she has played, including 10 straight games she has played.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has started the first 25 games of her collegiate career.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman started the first nine games of the season before fellow freshman Kayla Grossett started games against Sacred Heart and San Jose State before sophomore Tara Lonergan made her first career start against San Francisco and has started 10 of the last 14 games.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game 10 times this season. The Mount is 2-8 in those games and has won its last two games it hit a trey to start a game.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8), Loyola (Dec. 11), Quinnipiac (Jan. 4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Jan. 10), St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15) and Monmouth (Feb. 7).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four times, senior Mary Dunn has three opening treys while junior Sandra Andresson has two and freshman Ashley Christie has one.
• The Mountaineers are 5-9 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

let's play to 60 points... Mount St. Mary's is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when it scores 60 points in a game or holds the opponent under that total.
• The Mount is 22-16 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 16-54 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 29-24 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 9-50 when the opponent reaches 60 points.

three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 30-14 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-3 when the game is tied, but just 7-57 when trailing at the break.
• The squad is 17-16 when it holds a rebounding edge in a game, but just 20-54 when the opponent has the advantage and 2-4 when the two teams have equal boards.
• Mount St. Mary's is 29-24 when it holds opponents under 60 points.

hitting 20 points in a game... Senior Mary Dunn, junior Sandra Andresson, sophomore Selina Mann and freshman Ashley Christie are the only four players on the roster that has scored 20 points in a game in their career. All six 20-point performances have come in the last 13 games.
• Dunn posted a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31, had 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8 and scored 20 points against Bryant on Jan. 29. The senior also accomplished the feat twice last season when she recorded 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• Mann became the first player this season to turn the trick when she posted a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• Christie became the third player this season to reach 20 points after coming up short by one or two points twice this season. The freshman posted a career-high 21 points against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5.
• Andresson joined the 20-point club with a career-high 25 points against Monmouth on Feb. 7.
• The Mount has registered 22 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 13-9 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

notes on dunn's 1,000 point game... Senior Mary Dunn became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points with her layup at 17:05 in the second half against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10.
• Dunn is the first player to reach the milestone since current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier joined the club against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 7, 2009.
• Dunn is the 15th player to reach 1,000 points at home. The Mount is 11-3 in those games.
• The senior is the third 1,000-point scorer head coach Bryan Whitten has coached at the Mount, joining Gauthier and Tiffany Green (2007-08).
• Dunn is the eighth player in program history to have 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 19th place in program history with 1,126 career points. Next on the list is former teammate and current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier (1,128, 2005-09).
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into fifth place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 808 caroms after grabbing seven boards against Wagner on Feb. 12. The senior can move into fourth place and ahead of Karla Green (844, 1980-84) with 36 rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 15 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with two double-doubles.
• The senior became the program's all-time career leader in starts against Monmouth on Feb. 7 and now stands at 113.
• Dunn also cracked the Top-10 for games played with 113 and will move into seventh place with her next appearance.

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 563 career points to rank 48th in program history and can move into 47th place with 25 points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 55th place in program history with 501 points and can move into 54th place with 16 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 307 points for her career to rank 69th in team history and can move into 68th place with four points, 67th place with eight points and 66th place with 24 points.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has 243 points in her first season to rank 75th in program history. The freshman can move into 74th place with 13 points.
• Sophomore Tara Lonergan became the seventh player on the team to join the Top-100 in scoring and stands at 150 career points. The sophomore can move into 93rd place with one point, 92nd place with two points, 90th place with six points and 89th place with 23 points.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett has 133 points for her career and can be the eighth member of the 2010-11 team in the Top-100 with seven points.

1,000 games in program history... Mount St. Mary's played its 1,000th game in program history on Jan. 8 against Robert Morris.
• The Mount is 636-375 in program history.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

in the non-conference slate... Mount St. Mary's is 74-115 in non-conference games since joining the Northeast Conference in 1989-90.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 207-102 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 138-59 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.
• Mount St. Mary's won tournaments in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95, including earning the league's first two NCAA Division I bids.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 38-74 overall under Whitten.
• Whitten has defeated all 11 other teams in the NEC.
• The Mount is 17-34 overall at Knott Arena and 12-22 in NEC play under Whitten.
• The Mountaineers fair better on the road with a 21-40 overall mark away from Emmitsburg and 11-20 in league play.
• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.
• Whitten earned his 250th win of his career against Quinnipiac on Jan. 30, 2010.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).
