opening tip... Saturday's home opener between Mount St. Mary's and Navy marks the 26th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1976-77 season.
• The Mount leads the series 17-8, but the Midshipmen has won two of the last three matchups.
• Navy won 63-46 last season in the first tilt between the two teams since 2006-07.
• The Mountaineers and Midshipmen played 20 times from 1977-1989 including at least once a year, but this will mark only the sixth contest between the two teams since 1991.
about the midshipmen... Navy comes into the contest 1-2 after defeating William & Mary on Nov. 18.
• Sophomore F Jade Geif paced the Midshipmen with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore registered 10 points in a 56-39 loss against Richmond on Nov. 11. Geif leads the team with 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
• Junior G Chey Arvin chipped in 14 points against the Tribe. Arvin ranks second on the team with 7.0 and 2.3 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Alix Membreno added nine points against the Spiders in the season-opener. The sophomore is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
last time we met... Navy defeated Mount St. Mary's 63-46 on Dec. 8, 2010. Selina Mann paced the Mount with 11 points and seven assists. Kelly Guerriero and Ashley Christie each recorded 10 points in the loss. Cassie Consedine fueled the Midshipmen with 14 points and six rebounds. Chey Arvin added 12 points and Angela Myers chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.
quick hits on the towson game... Towson scored the decisive basket with 9.1 seconds left to come-from-behind to defeat Mount St. Mary's 71-70 on Tuesday.
• Junior Sydney Henderson notched a career-high 20 points against the Eagles. The junior had 16 of her 20 points at halftime to help the Mount take a 39-30 lead going into the locker room. Henderson leads the team with team with 12.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore Jessie Kaufman added 12 points against the Tigers. The sophomore has posted double figures in two of her first four games after posting a career-best 19 points against UMES on Nov. 15.
• Junior Selina Mann tallied 10 points and a career-high eight assists on Tuesday. The junior has recorded 10 points in each of her last three contests.
• Sophomore Ashley Christie scored a season-high 10 points against the Tigers.
• Mount St. Mary's converted 13 of 23 shot attempts from behind the arc, including 8 of 12 from 3-point land in the first half.
• The 13 made shots from behind the arc tied a single-game program record. The Mount also made 13 3-pointers at North Carolina on Feb. 27, 1989.
four games, four career nights... The Mount has had three different players step up to have career nights to lead the team in points in the first four games.
• Sophomore Kelly Guerriero posted a career-high 13 points against Binghamton on Nov. 11.
• Fellow sophomore Jessie Kaufman paced the Mount with a career-best 19 points in the win against UMES on Nov. 15.
• Junior Sydney Henderson notched a career-high 18 points against American on Nov. 18. The junior then surpassed that career performance with a career-high 20 points against Towson on Nov. 22.
• Sophomores Rachel Mathews (10 points) and Ashley Christie (10 rebounds) also had personal bests in the contest against the Eagles.
next on tap... Mount St. Mary's will travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
• After the game at Pittsburgh, the Mount will play five of the six games at Knott Arena in the month of December.
home opening omen... Mount St. Mary's is 24-13 in home openers and 12-12 at Knott Arena in the squad's first game in Emmitsburg.
• After winning the home opener, the Mount went on to post a winning season 20 times and eight times in Mount Division I history.
• Head coach Bryan Whitten is 1-3 in the first game of the year at Knott Arena.
in the nec... The Mount leads the league in 3-point field goals made (7.50 pg.) while ranking second in field goal percentage (.429) and 3-point field goal per centage (.361).
• Junior Selina Mann continues where she left off last season, ranking second in assists (5.00 pg.) and third in steals (3.50 pg.)
• Junior Sydney Henderson is second in 3-pointer made (2.50) and minutes played (36.50).
a fresh start… Junior Sydney Henderson has returned in 2011-12 after suffering a knee injury in the season opener last season.
• Henderson posted 18 points against American on Nov. 18 and a career-high 20 points against Towson on Nov. 22 .
• The junior scored 17 points against Virginia in her only action last season and has scored at least 17 points in three of her last five games.
andresson continuing where she left off... Senior Sandra Andressson ranks third on the team with 8.8 points per game after registering nine points in the first two games and a season-high 13 points against American on Nov. 18.
• Dating back to the end of last season, Andresson is averaging 10.8 points per game in her last 12 contests.
• In that stretch, the senior has recorded eight games with at least nine points and five double-digit performances including a career-high 25 points against Monmouth on Feb. 7, 2011.
man oh mann, selina... Mount St. Mary's can pretty much count on getting five from junior Selina Mann every game. The only question is will it be five points, five rebounds, five assists or five steals.
• This season, Mann has posted at a five spot in two categories twice and in four categories once this season.
• Mann has posted a five spot in one of those categories in 46 of the 58 games she has played.
• The junior has posted a five spot in two of those categories 17 times, twice in three categories and three times in four different categories.
• She has scored five points 32 times in her career, including 17 two-digit performances and a career-high 26 at San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• The 5-4 guard has posted five rebounds 15 times in her career, including two 10-board performances.
• Mann has dished out five assists 15 times in her career including a career-high eight helpers against San Fransisco on Dec. 31, 2010 and against Towson on Nov. 22, 2011.
• The junior has registered five steals in a game five times in her career, including tying a program record with 10 thefts against Sacred Heart on Jan. 24, 2011. She also has eight games of four steal to her credit.
• Mann leads the team with three double-doubles. She has two points-rebounds tricks and one points-steals. She is only the third player in Mount Division I history with a double-double that includes steals. The junior recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds against American on Nov. 18.
mathews from the start... Sophomore Rachel Mathews has started the last three games and has made the most of her starting nods.
• The sophomore posted a career-high 10 points against American on Nov. 18.
• In her first collegiate start, Mathews registered six points and a career-best seven rebounds against UMES on Nov. 15.
• Mathews is averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds as a starter and 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds on the year.
looking for bench help... Mount St. Mary's starters have played 616 of the 800 minutes so far this season. The starters have spend 77 percent of the time on the floor.
• Juniors Sydney Henderson (36.5 mpg.) and Selina Mann (34.2 mpg.) and sophomore Ashley Christie (31.0 mpg.) are all averaging at least 30 minutes at game.
• In addition, the starters account for 68 percent of the scoring (162 of 238 point). Sophomore Kelly Guerriero posted a career-high 13 points against Binghamton and fellow sophomore Jessie Kaufman had a career-best 19 points off the bench against UMES and 12 points against Towson on Nov. 22 to account for 44 of the 76 bench points this season.
in their collegiate debut... Freshman Mariah Powell was the lone freshman to make her collegiate debut in the season opener against Binghamton.
• Powell entered the game with 67 seconds left and registered her first career points on a pair of free throws with 52 seconds left and her first collegiate rebound with 19 ticks on the clock.
• Fellow freshmen Jen Carney, Melanie Mocniak and Lindsay Williams are still looking for their first collegiate action.
the need to dial long distance for 1-2-3... The NCAA changed the three-point line for the 2011-12 women's basketball season to 20 feet, nine inches, which is the same distance men's basketball has been using for several years.
• Last season, the Mount led the Northeast Conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.355) and had three players rank in the Top-10 in the category.
• The Mount is 30-for-83 this season from behind the arc, including 13-for-23 against Towson on Nov. 22. The 13 made 3-pointers tied a program record. The squad also hit 13 treys against North Carolina on Feb. 27, 1989.
• Junior Sydney Henderson leads the team with 10 baskets from behind the arc while sophomore Jessie Kaufman has eight.

• Sophomore Jessie Kaufman is in her second season at the Mount while freshman Jessica Kaufman joined the St. Francis (N.Y.) team this season.
in the month... Mount St. Mary's is 55-53 in the month of November in program history. The Mount is 30-17 at home, 16-30 on the road and 9-6 at a neutral site in the month.
• The Mountaineers are 28-46 in November since switching to Division I in 1988-89. The team is 17-17 at Knott Arena, 9-24 on the road and 2-5 at a neutral site.
• Under head coach Bryan Whitten, the Mount is 8-14 overall, 4-7 at home and 4-7 on the road in the month.
• The Mount is in its 38th campaign in program history, but did not have a game in November seven times.
• Mount St. Mary's won its first 17 home November games in program history.

home sweet home... In its 25th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 208-103 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 139-60 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.
i'm a weekend kind of girl... Sophomore Ashley Christie averaged 11.8 points per game on the weekend in 2010-11.
• Christie has one double-digit performance in 2011-12 after scoring 10 points against Towson on Nov. 22.
• The sophomore posted double figures in six of her last seven Saturday games and averaged 17.0 points per game in that stretch last year.
• Christie averaged 13.5 points per game in six Saturday league games last season.
• The sophomore posted eight of her 14 double-digit performances on the weekend. Those eight games also represent her Top-8 performances.
tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 246 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (264) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (269).

preseason poll... The Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team has been picked 11th in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll. Five of the 12 teams in the league garnered first place votes with Saint Francis (Pa.) being tabbed the preseason favorite after picking up four first place nods. Robert Morris, Long Island, Monmouth and Sacred Heart each picked up two first place votes apiece. The Colonials and Blackbirds placed 2-3 in the poll while the Hawks and Pioneers finished tied for fourth. Quinnipiac, Fairleigh Dickinson, Bryant, Central Connecticut State, Wagner, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team poll.

• The Mount is 24-21 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 16-55 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 31-25 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 9-55 when the opponent reaches 60 points.
three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 32-16 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-3 when the game is tied, but just 7-61 when trailing at the break.

• Henderson became the first player this season to reach 20 points when she scored a career-best 20 points against Towson on Nov. 22.

players on the move... Senior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 49th place in program history with 584 points and can move into 47th place with five points and 46th place with seven points. Andresson needs 18 points to become the 46th place in program history to score 600 points.
• Junior Selina Mann has 369 points for her career to rank 62nd and can move into 61st place with 51 points.
• Sophomore Ashley Christie has 300 points to rank 72nd in program history. The sophomore can move 70th place with five points and 69th place with 11 points.
• Junior Sydney Henderson has 208 career points to sit in 84th place. Henderson can move into 80th place with 11 points, 79th place with 13 points and 77th place with 31 points.
• Junior Tara Lonergan sits in 88th place with 174 points and she can jump into 87th place with one point, 86th place with eight points, and 85th place with 12 points.
• Sophomore Jessie Kaufman jumped into the program's Top-100 with 19 points against UMES on Nov. 15 and now stands in 90th place with 167 points. She can move into 89th place with seven points, 88th play with eight points, 87th place with eight points and 86th place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Kayla Grossett ranks 92nd place with 152 points, four points from 90th place with teammate Kaufman (167) looming.
• Sophomore Kelly Guerriero (118 points) will be the next players to crack the program's Top-100, needing 26 points.
big east showdowns, at least for now... Mount St. Mary's will play Pittsburgh on Nov. 29 and West Virginia on Dec. 20.
• It will be the fifth meeting against Pittsburgh in the last six years and the two teams will play each other for the third-straight year. The Panthers have won the four previous matchups.
• Pitt head coach Agnus (McGlade) Berenato is a Mount graduate.
• West Virginia returns to the schedule for the first time since 2002-03. West Virginia leads the series 3-2.
• The Mount's lone win against a BCS opponent since switching to Division I was a 78-75 win against West Virginia on Dec. 6, 1994.
• Both Pitt and West Virginia made news earlier this year by announcing that it would be leaving the Big East. The Panthers are slated to join the Atlantic Coast Conference and West Virginia is heading to the Big 12.

• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his fifth season at the Mount. The Mount is 41-80 overall under Whitten.

• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.

out of africa... Former women's basketball player Leah Westbrooks was named the recipient of the Shooting Touch Inc. Sabbatical Program grant.
• Westbrooks received $25,000 to help with travel cost and expenses on her 10-month international independent study in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Westbrooks is currently in South Africa to work with the Hoops for Hope group and Western Zimbabwe with the Matilda Project.
