EMMITSBURG, Md. – Mount St. Mary's concluded its 2011 home schedule with a scoreless draw against Saint Francis (Pa.) in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday night. The Mount finished 6-1-1 at Waldron Family Stadium.

Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made two saves for the Mount (7-6-2, 4-3-1 NEC) while Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) had a team-high five shots in the match.

Darius Motazed made three saves for the Red Flash (8-6-2, 4-3-1 NEC) on the night.

In a pivotal NEC clash between two teams fighting for the NEC postseason, both squads had several chances to score but could not convert.

Saint Francis (Pa.) recorded the first two great opportunities on the night in the first 10 minutes of the game. Makala Hairston had hit header nick off the cross bar and over in the fifth minute before Steve made one of his two saves in the game on a David Butler scoring chance in the 18th minute.

After the Red Flash was called for a hand ball in the box, Wheeler missed a penalty kick just wide left in the 12th minute. The senior then missed high in the 26th minute before Motazed made two stops on Wheeler' shots in the 32nd and 33rd minutes.

In the second half, Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Swarthmore) missed high after having Motazed out of position in the 59th minute. Jimmy Ockford (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) then missed wide in the 69th minute for the Mountaineers' final scoring chance in regulation. Tamas Maffey-Stumpe gave Saint Francis (Pa.) its final scoring chance in regulation, but missed wide in the 82nd minute.

In the first overtime period, the Red Flash nearly came away with a goal in the 94th minute, but Tobi Iguade's shot was knocked out of the box by the Mount St. Mary's defense for a team save.

After not having a shot in the first overtime, the Mount had a couple of chances in the second extra session. Ockford had a shot turned away by Motazed in the 103rd minute. Matthew Steele (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) gave the Mountaineers its final scoring chance and missed just wide left with 1:22 on the clock. Saint Francis (Pa.) then turned the Steele miss into its final scoring chance as Hairston missed wide 13 seconds later.

With two games left, the Mountaineers are in a fifth-tie in the standings with Saint Francis (Pa.) and St. Francis (N.Y.) with 13 points. Sacred Heart is one point ahead of the trio with 14 points while Central Connecticut State (15 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (17 points) and Monmouth (18 points) are also ahead of the Mount.

Mount St. Mary's hits the road for its final two matches of the season. The Mount travels to Robert Morris on Sunday. Match time is 1 p.m.
